About Me

"clear acoustic guitar and lush, flowing vocals…" The Onion A. V. Club
"The Minnesotan's smooth, evocative contemporary folk recalls Jonatha Brooke, but she's definitely her own woman." Isthmus (Madison, WI)
"haunting... never ceases to be mesmerizing... amazing lyrical prowess." Reader Weekly (Duluth, MN)
Grounded in acoustic tradition but going beyond conventional boundaries, "Kelly crafts achingly beautiful songs and delivers them with simple grace." (Chicago's Green Note Concert Series). Minnesota Monthly Magazine notes that her influences run "deeper than your standard java-fueled folk".
Shortly after releasing her debut EP Wait For Your Spring in the fall of 2004, Kelly's music started to receive national attention. Her songs Knee Deep and Daffodils won her an Honorable Mention in the 2004 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. The tune Rockets was featured on NPR's All Songs Considered. Digital distribution and licensing for the album is handled by the San Francisco-based record label INgrooves.
After a 2 year hiatus due to an arm injury at the end of 2005, Kelly has just recently returned to performing in her new hometown of Portland, OR!
WARNING: Even though Kelly is super friendly and loves to hear from her friends and fans alike, she is, in many respects, an incorrigible introvert. And a bit of a Luddite and hippiechick to boot. I mean, she doesn't even watch TV, for cryin' out loud (well, except for movies from Netflix, since she has a well-known record of overdue fines for libraries in at least 5 states)! But she's made her peace with email, so if you really want to chit-chat, try her that new-old fashioned way:) Otherwise, rest assured that when she is not getting tanked on tea and doodling at a local cafe, or trying to soak up some sun and getting lost in the mountains, she is checking her page from time to time, remembering to update her calendar, and always very, very happy to see you!
