About Me

Jonathan Pope was a schizoid folk singer of the 1960s who used to sing and play guitar on the Washington Square in New York City. After being celebrated on the Newport Folk Festival he got a deal with Decca. Unfortunately he became a drug addict and was fired a year later when he posed naked in a coffin of glass on the Washington Square, completely drunk. He stopped washing and shaving himself for seven years, waiting for the devil to make him a rich man. The devil didn't show up and so he strangled himself to death during an obscene act. He died in 1972. In 2001 he recorded an album in his grave which has never been released yet.
