About Me

David Sharpe is a children’s songwriter and singer who has provided hundreds of children with the joy and excitement of music. He has written over one hundred original songs and continues to create new music and new entertaining adventures for children in his performances.
His musical background is mostly self-taught acoustic guitar which he has played since he was a teen. His passion and inspiration for children’s music has evolved out of his desire to play fun and interactive songs for his two daughters, but most recently for his three grandchildren. David considers himself an excellent listener and observer of the fascinating things children say and do. This is how most of his ideas for songs are born. His musical goals are to write music that can teach children about subjects such as proper nutrition and environmental issues in an entertaining and fun filled manner.
Educationally David received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He then attended The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and received his Masters and Doctorate degrees. He has practiced Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in San Jose California for over thirty years.
In October 2006 David released his first CD “All The Things You Dream”. This CD contains fifteen of David’s original songs including the song “PapaHugs” which describes the beauty of being a grandparent. This name has become associated with David and is what his fans call him. He also has formed PapaHugs Productions, the business name of his music entity.
PapaHugs has performed at numerous venues including, The Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, The JCC of Silicon Valley, The JCC of Phoenix, Multiple performances for The San Jose Public Library, Barnes and Noble, Via Services of San Jose, San Jose Children’s Faire, Los Gatos Children’s Fantasy Faire, The Mommy and Me Program at Santana Row and Westgate Mall. He also has an upcoming performance at The Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain view California.
A typical PapaHugs performance contains 10-15 of David’s original songs performed by David and his backup band. Within the show are the “PapaHugs Playtime Characters”:(“Wonder the Kangaroo”, “Robbie the Robot”, and “Scary bug”). An interactive song has been written about each of these characters. There are also wonderful sound effects with the music and colorful backdrops, which can be projected if the venue has the capability. Most performances are concluded with the song “I Like Bubbles” at which time a professional bubble machine fills the room with bubbles to the delight of all the children. At most shows David gives out free Kazoos or Maracas in combination with songs such as “A Kazoo For You”. The children learn how to play these instruments and can then take them home.
David’s media exposure has included feature articles in Bay Area Parent Magazine, The Baby Beats Column of The San Jose Mercury News, and The Willow Glen Resident. He has been featured on KBAY radio and Comcast TV. An upcoming interview on KICU-TV is scheduled.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
