Video games of Nintendo, kendo, and old-style music(70's R&B).Right, I guess pics and words wont do enough for showing what kendo is... Easiest thing to do? i guess search for AUSKF(All United States Kendo Federation), but people dont like working. i know. too bad for folks i dont have a video clip, so if ya wanna watch, come to the Sacramento Kendo Club. ...all right if i won 3rd once i guess im decent enough.All right. Kendo. From the beginning. What is it? Its a martial art. 'cept it has a weapon. you wear a durable robe(gi) and a skirtlike garment(hakama). basic stuff. then you have a men(leather/metal helmet), tare(waist/groin protector;also tells people where ya came from), kote(two leather gauntlets;leather) and do(plastic body armor).one of my pics should show ya what all that whatchamacallit was i was talkin 'bout. then we have our weapon, sticks made of bamboo(treat em like a sword) called shinais.becuz its not somethin-hundred years ago, its not a death match, and there are some rules(far too many;i dunno some of em). we lay in a square court, and youre not allowed to step out. even if the other guy pushed ya out. you cant drop yer weapon. you cant be a coward and back away all the time. those are some penalties.these are supposed to be swords, not sledgehammers. ya dont swing em with attitude sayin "ill kill ya!" all over it.it has to be angled properly, timed perfectly, there has to be some follow-through, and you need "kiai", or what the americans call a freakin loud yell. no spirit, no point.very strict. veeeeeeeery veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery strict. i cant say it enoughnow the important stuff. not that the rest wasnt... usually matches are 2-4 min. and wins are decided by points. first to reach 2 or whoever has more when...well, thats the same everywhere. if it ties, we have encho(japanese for overtime).sudden death mode, whoever gets it first. if this is timed and STILL no point, then the shinpans call it(shinpan=referee/judge). theyll raise the flag color of the one they thought was accurate, proper, and full of spirit.whew...lots o typin...team matches are similar. we have 5 on each side, and we total which side has more win. tie: how many total points. TIE: representatives'll fight for their win.(that pic was team match at Salinas tournament. i won by 1-0 but the team lost 2-3...still, i won 3rd in my division!)right. too tired for anymore typin. more questions? welcome to ask!
