I am here for Friends

About Me

Hi I am a Falkland Islander who came to England with my family in 75 to seek a new life style away from farms and sheep, especially sheep! Settling in Southampton, in the evenings I began singing and playing my own Falkland songs around the pubs and clubs of the city.

In 84 Forest Tracks www.forest-tracks.co.uk recorded and produced the, LP ‘Kelpers after all’ (still available from the label as a CD) A series of promotion gigs followed out of which the duo UpMarket was born and so began a twenty year partnership with Scots fiddler Bill Eddie. There are many special memories of that time but a highlight was being heckled by a Jump Jet in Portsmouth Docks on Navy Day and playing at a posh wedding in Chichester, on the same day!
I have worked as a rhythm guitarist with a country band. Played blues and swing with my son Mike as Berni2Berni. Busked in the South of France and Ireland. been played on the radio in Italy and Australia. Have a fan in Korea, and to my continued surprise, am told that my music is still getting airplay on Falkland radio. Also my comment on the futility of war in Fields of Darwin was recorded by Vin Garbut as Dark side of the Moon. Not bad for a down home boy!
My love of down home material has never died, thus proving the old adage, “you can take the man out of the Falklands but you can’t take the Falklands out of the man.” and I am now working on a long term project to tell in music and verse, the story of Snow Squall, the last extreme American clipper, wrecked in the islands with some of my ancestors aboard.
Currently not very active musically my new ambition is to someday record and upload a track or two. The Loggerduck? a flightless bird from the Islands who has his own song, became a password and then tried to take over my space. But I am claiming it back!!
