The first contact Camané made with fado happened by accident. During the recovery from a childhood illness he dived into his parents record collection and came across the big names of fado: Amália Rodrigues, Fernando Maurício, Lucílía do Carmo, Maria Teresa de Noronha, Alfredo Marceneiro and Carlos do Carmo...
It took just a step from that time till the victory of the event "Grande Noite do Fado" (Big Night of Fado) in 1979. Following this participation, he has recorded some singles and made several public appearances.

After an interval of around 5 years, Camané came back to the world of fado, singing in several fado houses, and at the same time he made part of the cast of several productions of Filipe La Féria - "Grande Noite", "Maldita Cocaína", "Cabaret" - where he has distinguished himself.

During his performance at the fado nights in the Teatro da Comuna he met José Mário Branco, starting a relationship based on work and friendship that led to the release of "Uma Noite de Fados" (A Night of Fados), recorded live during four nights in a row at the Palácio das Alcáçovas, recreating the environment of a true fado house.

The release of "Uma Noite de Fados", praised by the specialized press, elects Camané the most representative voice of a new generation of fado, leading to the public's recognition of the quality of his work.
From that time on, he has made several appearances in Portugal, the most noteworthy being his participation in the ceremony to pay homage to Amália Rodrigues, promoted by RTP (public television) and abroad, in France, Netherlands, Italy and Spain. In 1997, besides the recordings of his new work, Camané has made a series of performances in collaboration with INATEL in Lisboa, Porto, ldanha-a-Nova, Santarém and Beja and he has participated in the show "As Viagens do Fado" (The Fado Travels) directed by Carlos Martins, which had the participation among others of Filipa Pais, Maria Alice, Ricardo Rocha and Carlos Barreto.

The beginning of 1998 was marked by the release of "Na Linha da Vida" produced by José Mário Branco and with the participation of Custódio Castelo (portuguese guitar), Jorge Fernando (guitar) and Carlos Bica (double-bass). "Na Linha da Vida" deserved special attention of the media, confirming the expectation brought by "Uma Noite de Fados", and definitively placing Camané as one of the most impressive voices of fado.

During the year of 1998, besides the concerts in Portugal, Camané has also performed at some of the most prestigious music festivals in Europe - "Tombées de la Nuit (Rennes); Les Mediterranées à l'Européen" (Paris)…. He has also collaborated with the Portuguese group Ala dos Namorados. In October, by the time of "Na Linha da Vida" releasing in Holland and Belgium, he toured in those countries.

At the end of the year, after the Spanish tour, Camané participated as a special guest on the concert of José Mário Branco at Teatro Camões and also on the Carlos do Carmo commemorative concert at Centro Cultural de Belém. Meanwhile, the press included "Na Linha da Vida" on the list of the best records of the year (Expresso/Voxpop…).
The year of 1999 was devoted to several live performances - Portugal, Spain, Macao and France - as well as the pre-production and recording of a new album of original songs. By the end of the year "Na Linha da Vida" was released by EMI in Korea marking the first approach to the oriental market.

In the beginning of 2000 there was a new step in store for Camané's career: the release of his third record - "Esta Coisa da Alma" - simultaneously in Belgium, Holland and Portugal. Once again produced by José Mário Branco, "Esta Coisa da Alma" has the participation of a distinguished threesome: José Manuel Neto, Portuguese guitar; Carlos Manuel Proença, guitar; and Carlos Bica, double bass.

The release of this CD in Holland and Belgium was accompanied by a tour through some of the most important venues of these countries, namely the two sold out concerts at the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and the participation on the Brugges Festival. "Esta Coisa da Alma" was also presented in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, France and of course Portugal, where one of the highest points was the concert done in October at Centro Cultural de Belém.
Representing the deserved recognition from the public, for his work "Esta Coisa da Alma", Camané received the Silver Record for the 10 thousand sales, accomplished right at the end of the year.

During February and March 2001, he performed several shows in Portugal and France (Festival Chorus) and April became an awarding month full of distinctions. There was a huge expectation the night of April 8th , when Camané received the "Globo de Ouro" (Gold Globe), from SIC (Portuguese TV Network), in the category of best solo interpreter. Two weeks later, the "Casa da Imprensa" (House of Press) rewards him, as well, with the "Prémio Bordalo" (Bordalo's Award) to the best solo interpreter in Portuguese popular music. At the end of October, he received the "Best Male Singer" award by the musical newspaper Blitz.
Camané released a year ago his fourth studio album "Pelo Dia Dentro" again produced by José Mário Branco and featuring his usual accompanists: José Manuel Neto on Portuguese guitar, Carlos Manuel Proença on acoustic guitar and Carlos Bica on double bass. The album achieved Silver sales after only three weeks.

The album's tour started off with three sold-out shows in two of the most prestigious Portuguese concert halls: Oporto's Rivoli theatre and Lisbon's CCB Grand Hall.

Before setting out on his Summer live dates, Camané was the featured singer in a specially-commissioned production for Brussels' Palais des Beaux-Arts inspired by Portuguese Modernist poet Fernando Pessoa's work, along with actress Manuela de Freitas.

"Pelo Dia Dentro"'s extensive live performances during the Summer have since extended to concerts in Belgium and Holland.

In the beginning of 2003 a CD has been released as a result of Camané´s collaboration in the acoustic concerts of the rock-band Xutos and Pontapés that took place in Lisbon at the end of 2002

In May 2003 a compilation of Camané´s songs was released by occasion of two sold-out concerts at Theatre de la Ville in Paris. This compilation makes part of the collection "The Art Of" from EMI-Hemisphere. It is a particular compilation that includes re-recordings of songs from "Uma Noite de Fados" - the first CD released of Camané.

At the end of the year a double live album has been released. The CD was recorded during the last two years, a special album that includes recordings from concerts in Portugal, Holland and Belgium (CD1) and from a series of presentations at the fado club Taverna do Embuçado (CD2).

Beginning 2004, Camané has been challenged to perform the show “Outras Canções” (Other songs) - a concert series created especially to be presented at Teatro São Luiz. During six concerts, Camané has taken the opportunity to show his audience the musical preferences that have inspired him through all his life: tunes composed by the greatest names from the Portuguese and Brazilian music popular music.

At the end of the same year, the cd “Humanos” has been released (a remake of original themes by António Variações, a famous pop Portuguese singer from the 80´s), a project that has also involved the singers Manuela Azevedo and David Fonseca and respected musicians as Nuno Rafael, João Cardoso and Hélder Gonçalves. The live concerts performed at the Coliseus in Lisbon and Oporto will be released on DVD in the future.
Besides the project “Humanos”, Camané continues touring throughout the country the concert “Como Sempre...Como Dantes”. The tour initiated in 2004 has been a great success and it has attracted audiences from all corners of the country and abroad BENELUX, Canadá and France (Festival d’Ile de France). He has also been awarded the Prize “Amália Rodrigues” in the category “Best Male Fado Singer”.
