Mechanix was founded back in May 2005 by two old friends, Cryo (AKA Squawk) and Flipper, that joined forces after 7 years. Flipper had served Sweden as a local DJ while Cryo did his job in the Athenian scene. When Flipper returned to his homeland they decided to push the scene forward together. Their first public appearance was at "One happy cloud" in Psirri. After that they have appeared in various places in Athens like Earth, Yoga Balla, Bios, Chroma, Caffeina, Gimmic, Open etc. During 2006, in cooperation with Funxion, they presented artists like Seba, Phace, Evol Intent and Vicious Circles. In October 2006 Mechanix added the D&B, Breaks and Electro DJ Soul Tana to their roster.
Their music has no boundaries. They represent the whole spectrum of Drum & Bass and Breaks. They also prepare the ground for other musical styles, not yet accepted in Greece, such as Dubstep, UK Garage, Grime etc. Satisfaction of the current followers is guaranteed but there is always a friendly sound for those who haven't gotten into the music totaly. The ultimate aim is to get more people to know about these alternative soundscapes and offer to the Athenian (and the Greek) nightlife a more varied musical experience.
The truth is that after the middle 90s Athens and the rest of Greece lost a lot of its original richness of music oriented options. Most places around Greece used the copy/paste technique in order to get a larger portion of the nightlife market, an action that caused suffering to people that were musically active, regardless the scene they were representing. The result was the lack of quality in most night clubs that represented a standardized formula, that was accepted by the audience. Radio stations as well as recordstores closed down. The flourishing of new musical cultures did not succeed. The Drum & Bass scene was unable to renew itself with new blood. Around 1998 the stone age arrived and lasted for about 4-5 years.
Mechanix purpose is to renew this scene, but also buildup a yet non existing scene of Breakbeat. The only way to succeed is to take advantage of any media that is available. This media is the internet. Even though the internet has been the main information center for music since 1998, in Greece it did not progress in the same way. This is about to change, and on this site the founders will provide you with everything you need to know, in a modern way of information transmitions.
