About Me

I HAD to do this. I started playing trumpet at age 5 and up until a few months ago, I haven't touched a trumpet since I was 15. Miles Davis was and is a huge inspiration, as a musician and especially as a band leader. In 1991, my friend John Bigham told me that Miles was looking for a new bassplayer. I gave him a video which he gave to Miles. Shortly after this, Miles went into the hospital and he passed away. I was completely devastated by this and still get very emotional about it to this day. On one occasion, I did a jam with Miles nephew, Vince Wilburn Jr. at the Cat Club in Hollywood. When we got offstage, Vince put his arm around me and said, " Miles would have LOVED you ! " After that, there was pratically nothing that could stop my tears although many people, including my dear friend Carrie Hamilton (RIP) tried. On the day that Miles got inducted into the RockWalk Of Fame @ Guitar Center a few months ago, I went and hung out with Vince and many other members of Miles family and a host of legendary musicians who played with Miles. Right after the ceremony, I bought a trumpet and a mute. I HAD to do this." The Adventures Of L.J. Horn "I started this CD literally as I was learning to play again. The last 8 months of my life have been devoted to writing, practicing, recording and producing these songs to showcase my trumpet playing. Much of the playing is VERY spontaneous as I approached this very much unaware of what I didn't know. Also, in the tradition of Miles Davis, I am attempting to stretch the boundaries of where most may think trumpet applies in terms of genres. The 14 songs on this CD span the gamut of genres with the hopes of creating a variety of moods and atmospheres. MyGen Profile Generator
