About Me
Pens on Fire is a small online literary magazine that publishes general short fiction, poetry, art and music, and writing articles, on a monthly basis (i.e. the August issue, the September issue, the October issue). The headquarters at Pens on Fire can be found at www.pensonfire.com . We have several other outlying sites that help us function and grow. We feature the current month’s literature and art, the archives of past months, submission guidelines, our blog, and more information on the staff and the contributors on this main site.
POF is always looking for new work from new writers with something interesting to say. We are a traditional submission oriented publication, though everything is 100% electronic. We receive submissions from writers or artists and we decide which ones are best for us based on the merits of the work (style, readability, progression, etc.). If you are interested in submitting work to us, we hope you’ll take a look at our guidelines at www.pensonfire.com/submission.html .
For our short fiction, we publish anything and everything we think will please our readers, whether it is horror, mystery, suspense, romance, literary, fantasy, or science fiction. We don’t judge on the topic of the work (this is true for our poetry, also) unless we find the topic to be “out there.†Violence for the sake of violence, sex for the sake of sex, political bantering for the sake of well…It’s one thing to have a violent scene in a short story, or a sex scene, or a social/political/spiritual message as a meaning, but when these things become the story, we feel that we can find a better story.
Pens on Fire has also spread to other web locations. We are like sand in your bathing suite after a day at the beach; we're in places you may have never thought to look. We have a Myspace page (oh yeah!?), and also a Myspace group to go along with our Yahoo! group. The staff is tampering with a few other things as well. We’re working on becoming a paying market, slowly but surely, and we are working on creating our own online bookstore where we will be able to help promote and sell the works of our author friends.
But one thing remains: our passion to building a network for writers of all skill levels, giving them a platform to display their work. We can’t publish every writer who submits work to us, but with our two writing groups, we can certainly help every writer grow in his craft.
