Tantai surge a finales del siglo pasado, después de la disolución del proyecto llamado Microset. Influenciados por una amplia gama musical y sonora, pero siempre inclinándose por la música electrónica experimental, Esteban y Diego confluyen sus gustos e ideas bajo este seudónimo, cuyo origen es japonés y se refiere filosóficamente a la materia que conforma todas las cosas. Esteban tiene una amplia trayectoria musical, fue miembro de varias bandas under y estuvo en la carrera de Música Electroacústica en la Universidad de Quilmes, la cual abandonó después de evidenciar marcadas diferencias conceptuales con sus docentes. Diego se define sencillamente como "experimentador", siempre tratando de probar la mayor cantidad posible de soft y hard con el fin de crear "cosas raras". Actualmente Tantai sigue trabajando esporádicamente, y presentándose en los lugares donde son invitados, generalmente fiestas privadas dentro del circuito under. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Esteban has an ample musical trajectory, he was member of several underground bands and he was in the Electroacustic Music career at the University of Quilmes in Argentina, which he left after demonstrating noticeable conceptual differences with his teachers. Diego defines itself simply as “experimenterâ€, always trying to test the greater possible amount of soft and hard with the purpose of creating “rare thingsâ€. At the moment Tantai continues working sporadically, and appearing in places where they are invited, generally exclusive underground events.
