About Me

When Mike Newman was 14 living in the southern pine barrens of South Jersey he bought his first 4-track tape recorder and was hooked. While playing bass guitar in garage bands he found himself more interested in hooking up every microphone he could get his hands on through a mess of cheap mixers and cords to squeeze as much music as he could onto 4 tracks of a cassette tape. Frequent trips to the local Radio Shack were a must. This passion for recording led him to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Recording Technology from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. Upon completing college Mike went on to become an intern at Tongue & Groove Studios (T&G) in Philadelphia under the guidance of the head engineer, Shelly Yakus (U2, John Lennon, Tom Petty, Van Morrison). T&G was known for having some of the best vintage equipment in the area and maintained an old school high quality approach to record making. Mike quickly became an assistant engineer at T&G, and soon after a staff engineer.During his time at T&G Mike began mixing and engineering records with Shelly Yakus while producing and engineering local and regional bands on the side. Studying and working at T&G gave Mike a well rounded old-school foundation for making records which he has built upon by bringing a fresh, modern approach to the old-school high quality craftsmanship of record making.
