About Me

Originally from, and currently based in Montreal, having close ties to Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Jeff May is the kind of musician who defies categorization. He can perhaps best be described as a musical shape-shifter . . . and just when one thing seems to ‘solidify’ in his vast array of musical personas, it is likely to dissolve into the mist, preparing the way for another voice to be discovered, presented, and integrated into the mix. *****As a multi-instrumentalist, he has, at one point or another, played the following musical instruments: piano, trumpet, classical guitar, jazz guitar, recorders of all sizes, silver flute, assorted bamboo flutes, viola de gamba, mandolin, soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax, Bb clarinet, congas, and assorted hand percussion. *****Jeff is deeply involved in studying and experiencing the connectedness of all things. He is a student of ‘A Course In Miracles’, having discovered therein a teaching system that covers the challenging issues of spirituality, psychology, and metaphysics in a sort of all-in-one manner. *****He is in love with the learning process - this on-going search for new ways to experience music and life . . . both as a student and as a teacher. *****A list of some of the many music teachers he has crossed paths with since childhood include: Esther Berman, Archie Etienne, Louis Spritzer, Peter McCutcheon, Barry Crago, Wolfgang Kander, Jean-Paul Major, Sayyd Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Charles Ellison, John Stetch, Bob Mover, Frank Lozano, Pascal Véraquin, Jeff Johnston, Holly Arsenault, Kate Wyatt, and Jim Head. *****To quote Pat Martino: "The guitar is of no great importance to me. The people it brings to me are what matter. They are what I'm extremely grateful for, because they are alive. The guitar is just an apparatus." This speaks beautifully to something that is of utmost importance – to always remember that music, this wonderful gift, is ultimately about bringing people together – about sharing and celebrating life, wherever and whenever possible.
