Secret Service: ”lost track” rediscovered

The Swedish band Secret Service was all over the charts during the years 1979-1987. Their name was no coincidence. While their debut single Oh Susie became a hit single, no one knew whom the members were.
Once ”the secret” was out, the band (originally Ola Håkansson, Tim Norell, Ulf Wahlberg, Tonny Lindberg, Leif Johansson and Leif Paulsén went on to conquer the world. Hits like Ten O’Clock Postman, Flash In The Night and The Way You Are followed. Before long, the band became the biggest Swedish music export since ABBA, reaching record sales of five million and counting. In the process they influenced a generation of bands who were inspired by their use of vintage synthesizers, Linn drum, textures and atmospheres. In recent years, Secret Service has started to re-appear on compilations and several bands have covered their songs. The haunting hit Flash In The Night is a key track in the recent international movie hit ”Let The Right One In”.
Early 2009 marks the return of Secret Service. Their new single, ”Different” has the feel that they are known for. There’s also an interesting story behind the song: Norell was moving out of his house. Going through old stuff he came across a box with some old, never released recordings. One of them was ”Different” - a song that never saw the light of day.
Who knows what else was found in that box...?
