About Me

My top 3, top 3s’:
Deli sandwiches
1) Salt beef on rye, mustard and a smidgen of saukraut.
2) Smoked salmon and cream cheese in an onion platzel. Lemon and ground black pepper.
3)Thick cut turkey breast, creamy coleslaw on rye or good cholla .
Hip Hop colloquialisms
1) Word. n 1. To express agreement, “shall we go to the pub?” “Word”. 2. As a greeting, an alternative hello, often unaccompanied by ‘up’ for a greater desired effect. “Word-up dad!”
2) Wack. adj 1. A bad or disappointing affair, person or object. “P. Diddy/Spurs/Dunlop sneakers are wack.”
3) Dope. adj 1. The height of excellence, erudition, godliness. n 2. Cannabis, slang. *Acceptable when written within context, must be spoken with a hint of irony.
Albums of 2007, so far
1) Wiley, ‘Playtime Is Over’
2) Kanye West, ‘Graduation'
3) Various, ‘Well Deep:10 Years Of Big Dada’ (technically number 3 is a compilation album but this is my top 3, top 3s on my myspace so I’m rolling with it)
I began writing for magazines a few years back, initially interning at Jack and Touch magazine, where I went onto become online editor before falling out with the-then editor. And the publisher, who is a fully-fledged member of the asswhole union. For a while I contributed to fashion titles like Tank, but at the start of last year I began writing for ukhh.com . My objective was to cover Grime and I started by interviewing guys like Bruza and Lethal Bizzle but there doesn’t seem to be any Grime Prs’(maybe that’s an idea..) so I rarely got sent any music to review. I was suppose to interview Wiley earlier this year after the release of his debut single, 50/50 & Bow E3 on Big Dada, but I went traveling around Europe and North Africa for a few months instead.
Shortly before that I interviewed Armani Xxxchange from everybody’s (well, me and my mates at least) favorite hipster hoppers, Spank Rock. Click here for interviews with former and current Terra Firma members Kyza and Klashnekoff that makes for an interesting read on DIY rap in the UK. Recently I caught up with Kool Keith and he told me all about his genuflection for Paris Hilton and seeing aliens smoking blunts in his hood. Kool! I also interviewed Will Ashon towards the end of 2007, who started up and runs my absolute favourite record label - Big Dada! There goes my pseudo-objectivity.
I also currently contribute to One Week To Live magazine, and you can check out a few of my features above.
Here’s a heap of recent reviews to read if you’ve got nothing better to do…
7 & 12 INCHES
Wiley, ‘My Mistakes’
MC Wrec, ‘The Great British Moan’
Dubbledge, ‘Rice & Peas’
Braintax, ‘Syriana Style’
Killa Kela, ‘Reveal Your Inner Self’

Breakin’ Bread (various), ‘Dirtybreakinfunkandhiphop’
