Aaron The Black

About Me

Many people better than I have tried to figure out the origins of the mysterious Buccaneer we've come to know as Aaron the black. But I got lucky and one day whilst wandering around a small fishing village on the Turkish coast I ran into a local tavern too seek cover from the torrential rain that spit down from the heavens. Walking in it was obvious that all the local fisherman had foreseen the storm. From wall to wall the tavern was filled with men of the sea. their keen sense of the weather honed by hard won years at sea. I eased up to the bar and order some of the local fair I pulled my journal out from it's oil skin satchel and placed it on the counter.I started to write” long arduous have been my travels I came to this forsaken land chasing a ghost....the ghost of a man that I cannot as of yet even prove he ever existed. I was told there was in this town something special, that he came here on occasion. Why I still do not know, what would draw a man such as him to this desolate place.....what’s the word scoundrel, rouge, cutthroat all just words, mere labels that are eclipsed by the shadow of this mans exploits. I looked up from my journal in despair I lifted a piece of cloth from its pages on which was his symbol an unmistakable skull with crossed cutlasses below. I stared at it with all my might hoping that there was some clue in this icon that would tell me something about the man.... I slowly became aware of the breath of someone looking over my shoulder. Before I had a chance to react a hand carefully closed on my right shoulder I reached for my dagger spun around an placed it on the throat of my unseen assailant. Then he came in to focus. He could not have been more that 15 years old! The young boy unflinchingly stared at the cloth in my hand even as my blade tempted to split the soft flesh of his neck, he never looked away from it .Then in very broken speech clearly unsure of his words he said "me see before ". A spark went off in brain renewed hope this boy I asked him in the best native tong I could muster “My child I have gold for you all I ask is where have you seen this before”. my blade still at his throat he said “come” and walked off into the buffeting rain I gathered my things as quickly as I could and rushed out the door, rain stinging my eyes, there! I could see him walking towards the outskirts of town. After about a mile of wet hell we arrived at a small but well constructed house. There he stood at the door, his had out waiting for his promised treasure. I place three gold coins in his steady palm, a years earnings for simple fisherman and as soon as his hands closed around the coins .he let out a scream in his native tong "father come to the door there is a man too see you " the boy escorted me in to the front room of the house and instructed me to take a seat while he walked into the back. I soon heard the boy and his father argue. They were talking so fast I could hardly understand what they were saying "how dare you " the father said "but the money” his son replied. I heard a slap of hand meeting flesh and the sound of coins crashing against the floor then silence. The father than said in a hushed tone "my debt to him can never be forgotten not by you. Nor your children nor your children’s children "another pregnant pause followed by a loving sigh “for without him you would not be here to challenge my patients.”Moments later the man stepped through the door walked strait over to me place the coins in my hand and said "whatever you looking for you will not find it here. Now go!" He ushered me towards the door. I stopped just before the exit and pleaded to the man "all think he is a killer a murderous fiend tell me are the wrong is Aaron the Black a doomed soul ....the man paused his look of anger slowly turned to pain and said in a gentle voice ”I will tell you this whatever you think you know about him is wrong. I was on a ship bound to India are cargo was to be tea to take back to England Aaron The Black as you call him was a mere crewman on the ship pressed into service. He was the bastard son of a British royal trying to hide his mistake at sea. I was younger then and I had taken ill so ill in fact that the captain had ordered I be returned to the sea. They took me on to the main deck using my last ounce of strength to plead for my life. I was lashed to a crate of shot and was hurried over to the edge I closed my eyes and said what I thought was to be my last Prayer I know I haven't been a good man I know I've done things wrong so if this is to be my end god have mercy on my soul. I felt them raise my body to the railing and heard a stern voice shout. “Put down that man or I shall Run you through” it said the fist mate holding my shoulders replied “shut up runt or you'll share his fate” The voice of my benefactor ended "I would rather share his fate than to kill a helpless man! Bad form.... bad form indeed!” and with that I fell. falling waiting for mother ocean to cool my fevered body. It was then I passed out I woke later to the sight of two blue eyes staring at me. I was fixed at their gaze for in them appeared a vision of two sun flowers, as if to tell me I would see another spring .... Those were the eyes of Aaron The Black my sailor my master and my friend. Apparently in the struggle Aaron had killed the first mate and one of his lackeys and with the help of the rest of the crew shackled the captain and assumed control of the ship.Aaron The Black is no devil. Nor a demon sent to terrorize the crown. He is an angle of mercy that saved my life when there was no hope left! write that in your journal he said with contempt. “I will” I replied as I rose to walk for the door he whispered “ if you think you've met him look deep into his eyes look for the sunflowers then you'll know for sure....”With that he sent me on my way with a name of someone to contact back in England who might know more of this puzzle. The sheriff of Billericy? What could he possibly have to do with this? Hmmm…..their yearly fair starts soon, I imaging I shall find him there.. I walked back to the port anxiously, wanting to book passage home. It was then I thought to myself. “I’m beginning to Question if this man Aaron The Black is as nefarious as everyone says. If the man I just met is right even the darkest of villains can have a hero's heart.”:Monty Star Wars
