*JaNeLL* (Philadelphia, PA), a.k.a.Tiffany Janell Quinones, performer, teaching artist, poetic/song writer, and choreographer was born in Philadelphia on Jan 29 to her parents Janette and Melquiades Quinones.It was evident that as a young child she carried the traits of a performer. Always singing and dancing, and many a times getting upset when the music was absent, Mr. and Mrs. Quinones knew something had to be done. At the age of five, JaNeLL started training in ballet and jazz. At the age of ten her parents realized her vocal talents and upon JaNeLL's requests enrolled her in vocal lessons. JaNeLL trained in vocal, piano, and salsa in Philadelphia at AMLA {American Music Latin Association] till the age of fourteen, under the direction of Venissa Santi as her vocal coach. While being apart of AMLA, JaNeLL did promotion commercials for the television network Univision, where she was also able to show her vocal and dance talents. Throughout that time JaNeLL performed in many shows, plays, and talent shows building her experience as a performer.At the age of fourteen, JaNeLL was accepted in the Creative and Performing Arts high school of Philadelphia, in which she became a triple threat in theatre, dance and vocal. She took part in numerous shows as a performer as well as an extra assistance in the areas in which she obtained a proficient level in skills which were costume design, hair design, and makeup artistry.
JaNeLL also rose to the level in taking under her wing the first Puerto Rican/Hispanic heritage showcase creating and implementing a structure in which still stands and is utilized as a model within the current outline of the program. Afterward, she took advantage of her leader roles and began to teach salsa lessons to her peers as well as staff members, encouraging the importance of culture, team work, performance and dedication.Besides her many traits within the Hispanic community, JaNeLL has acquired to also identify her character as an all around performer do to her triple threat status. Due to this she was an active member within the CAPA CARAVAN, company and performance ensemble which performed in local schools educating students about the importance of reading and conflict management.On JaNeLL’s downtime, she utilized her abilities to perform and joined the Miss Latina/ Mr. Latino Beauty Pageant as a featured performer and later on was invited to b a contestant in which she now obtains and proudly holds the title of Miss teen Latina 2006. JaNeLL has utilized her title to promote her all around talents but mainly to educate young Latinas on ways to not fall into preconceived notions that have been in opposed upon us by society.
Besides her focus on school, she took it upon herself to enrich and enforce her Latin status within the dance world. She than studied and participated in the numerous presidios companies studying and performing Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue, Bomba y Plena, and Rumba in many different venues performing in places such as Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Washington DC, Connecticut, and Boston to name a few.Her motivation has been and continues to be a saying that she carried with her throughout her adventures which is “Why be granted freedom if we don’t have the freedom to be ourselvesâ€. With the above stated this is just the beginning for an uprising talent and future leader in the Latino community. Take this as a heads up! JaNeLL is more than ready to take OVER!
