Binyamin Zev Kahane

About Me

This page in in honor of the memory Binyamin Zev Kahane (1966- 2000)The youngest son of Rabbi Meir Kahane, Binyamin co-founded the "Yeshiva of the Jewish Idea" with his late father in 1987. During that time, he also began the "Darka Shel Torah" newsletter, a weekly commentary on the parasha and current events in the spirit of his father's ideology. He directed this project for over 14 years, until his death. In these commentaries, his writing skills and clarity in expressing the Jewish Idea began to be apparent. In 1989 he married Talyia Herzlich. They lived in Kfar Tapuach and had six children.Following the murder of his father, Rabbi Meir Kahane on November 1990, the yoke of leadership fell upon Binyamin's shoulders. He established and headed the "Kahane Chai" movement which was banned from running in the 1992 Knesset elections, and eventually outlawed in 1994. He also stood as head of the Yeshiva of the Jewish Idea in Kfar Tapuach. He was continuously harassed by the Israeli authorities for expressing his ideas. He was arrested dozens of time, interrogated constantly for his activities, and on several occasions was sentenced to imprisonment. After one particular raid on his house, he wrote: "They can pilfer my computers, confiscate my writings and files, but what I have inside my head, they cannot take." It was this original thought, and ability to put it into writing and influence others which frightened the establishment so. On December 31, 2000, while he and his family were returning from Jerusalem to their home in Kfar Tapuach, Binyamin and Taliya were murdered in a shooting ambush by Arafat's henchmen, leaving their six children orphaned. This gentle scholar, who fought like a lion when necessary, embodied the Torah concept of the scholar-warrior.
