MAYNARD C. VIRGIL / MCV PRODUCTIONS
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Maynard Virgil started his career as a marketing major graduate of the University of Cincinnati. At first planning to embark on a career in the retail fashion industry, plans changed after obtaining a job as stage manager at the local Cincinnati television news station. He found himself in charge of reports on the Bengals, the Reds, local news, beauty pageants and more. Constantly striving to grow, however, Maynard stayed focused on his long term goals by networking with all the locals, in addition to several Los Angeles and New York-based producers, setting his sights on a career in TV Directing. However, Maynard’s passion for music, as well as his experience in Cincinnati of producing a TV variety show and assisting the careers of local talent, also gave Maynard a taste for exploring a side career in Music Management and Artist Development. Maynard’s biggest focus and vision when it came to Music Management was to bring back the artistic direction of Motown Records and it’s founder, Berry Gordy, where the development of an artist encompassed every single area: from production, to etiquette, to maintaining a strong work ethic in truly knowing your craft. At around this time, with his eye for the visual, as well as a heart for acting expertise, Maynard also embarked on in Photography (predominantly headshot photos for singers and actors), as well as intensive Drama Coaching.
With a personal musical taste firmly rooted in Pop, R&B, Urban, and Hip Hop, Maynard set his sites on finding artists that were creative artists first and foremost, yet were also incredibly commercially viable. It was at this time that Maynard opened the doors of MCV Productions, a vehicle that would be used to find, foster, and forge the kind of creative artistry that is Maynard’s calling card. Over the years, many artists have come and gone within MCV’s prolific roster, but there are some shining stars within MCV Productions’ current roster that definitely require note:
• Christina "Brave" Williams – thru Maynard’s direction, a pretty face was discovered and a career was formed. Christina is currently signed as a recording artist to Richcraft / Jive Records as a member of the girl supergroup RichGirl . The album drops in 2008.
• Audra Simmons - a stunning young woman with a powerful voice to match, Audra was discovered by Maynard and was immediately drafted into the fold and signed exclusively to MCV Productions. Audra is also a member of the group RichGirl , produced by superstar producer Rich Harrison.
• Karlie Redd – a dynamic performer that mixes R&B with a Caribbean flavor, this multi-talented singer is preparing for the late 2008 release of her first single "Don't Get None".
In taking MCV Productions to the next level in Music Management and Artist Development, Maynard has set his sites on opening up his roster to many other opportunities and avenues. The goal of this is to always be on the watch for the Next Big Star. In doing so, he not only wants to guide burgeoning artists to success, but more importantly, to teach them the skills and knowledge of what it takes to be a successful creative artist in this highly competitive Entertainment Industry.
With the help from Maynard Virgil and his MCV Productions, this task will continue to be achieved.
