About Me

Helmut Christoferus Calabrese studied at the University of the Arts where he earned his Bachelor of Music in composition; his teachers included Richard Elliot, Theodore Antoniou and Andrew Rudin. At New York University, where he earned his Ph.D. in composition, his teacher was Ron Mazurek. His writing style incorporates the sound of grand opera into Hollywood film scores, orchestral, chamber and solo music. Following his doctorate, Dr. Calabrese began teaching music and became a founding member of the music publishing company Calabrese Brothers Music, LLC. Dr. Calabrese was recognized as a “Visiting Composer In Residence” in Oct. 22-29, 2006 at the “Constan..a 2006 International Music Days” where he received a world premiere performance of his orchestral version of “The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem” and his string quartet Easter Praises. Dr. Calabrese is working increasingly in the song cycle form while still writing for orchestral instruments. Dr. Calabrese has written several music scores for short films, and he continues to write music for film. Helmut Calabrese has received three ASCAPLUS awards from 2003 to 2006 by ASCAP. He was nominated by two United States Congressional Bills (1989) and (1991) to designate his song, “The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem” as official anthem of Statue of Liberty. http://www.helmutcalabrese.comDr. Calabrese gives piano lessons in Toms River, New Jersey.
