Fix Monday blend big rock sounds with delicate harmonies, indie sensibilities with pop catchiness, intricate musicianship with heart and soul.
Mondays are rubbish. They come around too quickly and ruin your Sunday evening. They remind you of how much you hate your job and your boss. Enter then Fix Monday; four lads from Leamington Spa on a crusade to make Mondays, and every other day at that, a little more bearable.
Cutting their teeth on the university circuit, Mike (vocals), Saf (bass) and Rhydian (guitar) shared stage space and living space in an effort to carve out a musical existence. Struggling to retain a drummer the boys resorted to harsher tactics – stealing the insulin supply of local diabetic drum machine Luke, they now ration it out on a gig by gig basis ensuring his loyalty to the cause. In an effort to restore band harmony they enrolled at the local Barbershop club and learnt to sing whilst smiling. They subsist on a diet of buffet food and cake by regularly crashing wedding receptions pretending to be the evening's entertainment.
Fix Monday's many influences include artists like Jeff Buckley, Elbow and Queen. Their thoughtfully crafted songs find their way into your head and obstinately remain for some time after. All four members are genuinely confident vocalists – the band has developed a reputation for its elaborate vocal harmonies and has been known to step off the stage and into the audience to sing unplugged anchored by a single guitar.
Not content waiting for a record label to sign them, Fix Monday started their own and signed themselves to it – through Sherpa Recordings the band released their début single, the intriguingly titled 'Margaret Peterson', on 1st December 2008 as a download-only. In support of this they drove across the country in their white van packing out venues and gaining many new fans both locally and further afield.
The boys' fan base are now eagerly anticipating the arrival of Fix Monday's first physical release – a four-track EP available mid 2009. And once again the band will be touring nationwide giving more people more chances to see just how good they are.
