About Me

adopt your own virtual pet!I'm a dreamer and idealist but also a realist. I realise that life isn't always fair, and we can't always change that, but that we can make the most of what we've got and hope to change the bad things slowly but certainly.I love my friends (and my Paul) and feel lucky to have met so many wonderful people both at university and since. I'm happy to listen and advise when asked, but find it harder to accept the same advice in return (as my friends will testify!)!I am finally happy and fulfilled in my career choice but it's taken a while and several jobs before realising that I should have been a teacher all along! Still, it's the experience that counts and I don't think I'd have done it any differently.

My Interests

Acting, Coxing, Chatting, Making things, Theatre, Swimming, Going to Sunny & Exciting places, playing the flute (badly), learning to play the piano (equally badly!)

I'd like to meet:

Anyone interesting and friendly really - not into overt and annoying pretentiousness, but people with something to say for themselves (without an overwhelming desire to wind other people up).Would like to meet Ian McEwan although I think he might be a teensy bit pretentious (in the way that I don't like). Would also like to meet Will Mellor, Billy Piper and Andrew Lincoln - just because I reckon they'd be really good people to chat to and they're just this side of supserstardom that in a slightly deluded state I might think they might want to be my friend!

Music:

REM, Norah Jones, The Shins, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, also quite into Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald and anything with that kind of jazzy, bluesy, summery sound.

Movies:

When Harry Met Sally, Garden State, Four Weddings, Devil's Advocate, Breakfast At Tiffanys. Ok, I admit it, I'm a bit of a romantic and I like a film that either gets me thinking or leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling. Recently saw "the breakup" with Jennifer Aniston and found it curiously depressing despite it being a comedy! Uplifting is good, New York and London are good, city romcoms are good and well thought out psychological thrillers (those that DON'T give me nightmares) are also worth watching!

Television:

My Family, Scrubs, Friends, Hustle, Teachers - also really enjoying Sorted on BBC1... I like a good documentary and any ensuing discussion as long as it doesn't cause a fight between me and whoever's watching it with me (which can sometimes happen when our views are radically different!)

Books:

Enduring Love, The Child in Time, Daniel Deronda, anything that I can pick up and not want to put down again - recent reads have included lots of children's/teenage books (I'm training to be a teacher!), especially by Celia Rees and Michael Morpurgo - they are brilliant writers!
