About Me

Kristjana has been a leading lady for years in the Icelandic Jazz scene. Her first CD, Ég verð heima um jólin (I'll be home for Christmas), with the Kristjana Stefáns Quartet, was released in 1996, and she has since made recordings as a soloist and as a guest performer, and made regular appearances in radio, on television and in concerts. The solo album Kristjana released in 2001 (released in Japan in 2005) was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards, as well as Fagra veröld (Beautiful world) in 2002 where she sang songs composed by Sunna Gunnlaugsdóttir to the works of various poets. In 2005 she made an album in collaboration with pianist Agnar Magnusson called Me For You, covers of famous pop tunes and recorded in New York with two of Americas greatest jazz musicians, Drew Gress on bass and John Hollenbeck on drums. The album was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards 2005 as Jazz album of the year(released in Korea 2007 and Japan 2008).Her newest cd Hvar er tunglid (Where is the Moon)music by Sigurdur Flosason and poems by Adalsteinn Asberg Sigurdsson was released in 2006 and she was nominated for Icelandic Music Awards as the Jazz performer of the year. In December 2007 a collection of her and Agnar Magnusson recordings was released in Korea, Kristjana and Agnar BEST. She has worked with many of Iceland's finest Jazz players and she also sings regularly with The Reykjavik Big Band, a band with guest conductors such as Frank Foster, Daniel Nolgård and Maria Schneider. Her concerts have been recorded and broadcasted for the National Radio in Iceland and other Scandinavian Radio stations. Kristjana also gives regular Master Classes in Iceland both for Music schools and Theater companies. Her new solo album "Better Days Blues" was released in August 2008. It is a blues album with orginal songs written by Kristjana and well known blues standards. Kristjana has given concerts in many countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden,Faroe Islands, Germany, England, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, U.S.A. and Japan. She lives and works in Reykjavík.
