Rob Russell.....
Musical Influences:
Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zep, Free, Deep
Purple, and anyone else even older than me.
Musical Experiences:
Began singing in the shower in my twenties.
Karaoke Bars in Japan in the mid 1980's.
"Talent-spotted" and appeared on Japanese TV in 1988 in what was a forerunner of (Tokyo) Idol..... (obviously a "novelty programme")
Guest singer with the "Bauhaus Band" in Tokyo from 1988-1992.
Guest singer with "Tania" in Singapore from 1995
Joined my first band (John Arrol's "Off The Cuff") in Singapore in 1997 at the
tender age of 40.
Lured by John Rowles to join "Mid-Life Crisis" in 1998 - met Das the Drummer.
Took the dog for a walk along Adam Park one evening in 1999(?) and stumbled into
the embryo of the "Adam Park Band" - Jon Pye and Reini Adelbert.
Went from a 3-man band, to a 6-man band and then to a 2-man band.... Jon and myself telling ourselves that it would be "alright on the night" -one night.
Persuaded the most famous Rock God in Singapore - Mel "The Minstrel" Ferdinands - as well as Das "The Jumping Chapati" to join the band.
Welcomed Uwe into the band on keyboards after an "exhaustive" search for talent at the HandleBar one evening.
Toured extensively with APB throughout Southern Singapore since then......From
The RDA Arena to Sentosa - we've played all over!
Musical Highlights:
Never knowing how many new songs will be on the playlist until the day of the
gig.
Playing with the same guys for so long that we don't even need to practice - as
long as Mel turns up.
Making bets how many songs we will finish before Das drops a stick.
Going into Lion Studio and actually sounding half decent (especially "Little
Wing").
Playing in front of a massive crowd who think we are half decent. (This one is
actually a "virtual highlight" i.e. not exactly (or remotely) "real").
Hanging out in Jon's music room with the band and laughing a lot.
Hopes:
That the voice will hold up - even if nothing else does....... Hmmm - well
that's a close call but at least there are drugs for the other problem.
That there will always be a "music room" to retire to.
John Pye.....
After 25 years of playing the guitar, happy in analogue space,
Jonathan turned his attentions to midi. After massive capital outlay
he found that what little musical talent he had did not extend into
the technical space of midi. Obsessed & in financial ruin his wife &
family left him.
Insanity & suicide followed shortly thereafter.

Age 17 - Stolen Property - Winner of the first Battle of the Bands held
at Rainbow.
Age 22 - Zircon Lounge with Chris Ho.
Age 32 - Midlife Crisis - Chance meeting with John Rowles at a party
when he said he wanted to form a Funk dance band complete with horn
section etc, I readily agreed to give it a try. Was a great band (12
piece) and really enjoyed playing in it. My old guitarist from Stolen
Property joined and completely transformed the music by giving it a
rock edge. Played quite a few gigs but the highlight for me is when we
played for my Clients ESPN on their 5th anniversary. They paid us 25K
but the equipment was rented by us. Great gig that!
Rob joined the band towards the tail end. Band broke up due to
non-commitment by everyone as travelling, cab driving, etc prevailed. .
Didn't play for about 5 years till Rob rang one fateful afternoon and
asked me if I would like to play again. I readily agreed. The Adam Park
Band. Age 38 I think.
Quit 2 years later and came back again early last year I think. Played
about 5 times since then with the band!!!!!! Love the guys, like the
music but I do wish we played more funk. The highlight has to be the
fact that I met you guys and the fact that we went to the recording
studio twice. Fucking Fab!
Mel Ferdinands.....
Musical Influences:
Guinness, Famous Grouse,Ravi Shankar, Britney Spears, Borat, THE BEATLES, Pam Anderson, Samantha Fox (what lungs!), Dolly Parton, Jon Pye, and the Adam Park Band.
Mel got into the band because he knew lots of celebs, he used to work as the Head Bouncer for a swank Hotel. Took up the guitar for 2 months, couldn't understand why it only had 4 strings, found out later it was a Bass Guitar. That explains why he sometimes plays elaborate solos when he shouldn't. Tries to sing occasionally, when he's not propping up the bar. A legend in his own mind.
