Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR) is dedicated its mission of conserving, restoring, and protecting the Chattahoochee River, its tributaries and watershed for the people, fish and wildlife that depend on the the river system. The Chattahoochee River is the main source of drinking water for more than 4 million Georgians, and its health has a direct impact on the health of citizens from North Georgia, to Metro Atlanta, to communities downstream.
URC was established in 1994 by a group of local environmentalists, scientists, and community activists and paddlers to focus grassroots avocacy on the Chattahoochee River Basin from its headwaters in the North Georgia Mountains to West Point Lake. UCR is protecting and restoring the Chattahoochee through monitoring and scientific research, educational programs, legal action, policy initiatives, and most importantly, our collective voice.
