About Me

William D. Berry was born on May 20, 1926,in San Mateo, CA. His family soon moved to Arizona, where they lived for seven years. He spent countless hours outside studying everything that moved reading animal books, and watching Disney films. He kept several small critters in his room and began drawing animals as soon as he could hold a pencil. He completed his first book (on slugs) when he was five! As time went on, he became more known to the public. He wanted to work for Disney and even went to the Art Center in Los Angeles in 1943, but World War 2 intervened. He served his last military year as a cartoonist for "Stars and Stripes". When he returned to civilian life, he attended the School of Allied Arts in Glendale, CA. However most of his knowledge came from hours spent at the Los Angeles County Museum, where he drew skeletons and studied the structure of dozens of birds and mammals. He ended up illustrating a book for them, entitled "Birds of Southern CA", by George Wollett. Over the years, Berry worked as a Curator of Science at the California Junior Museum in Sacramento and did numerous commissions, ranging from paintings to illustrations to murals. Invited to visit Alaska, Berry and his wife, Elizabeth, eagerly accepted. Alaska soon had a hold on them that patently never let go. Elizabeth Berry recalls in the book about a time in Denali National Park when their jeep got stuck. "....The guest was a different kind of person, to say the least, and while he made angels in the snow and praised the ancient gods for letting us experience this magnificent country, we were busy using the garbage can lids as shovels. We finally extricated the jeep and started back to Camp Denali when Bill yelled at us to stop and took his turn at praising the gods- actually a whole line of exuberant profanity. Then my eye caught what he had seen- several black dots that resolved themselves into wolves. It was a family of eight black wolves, the first wolves we had seen in three summers at Camp Denali. The scene is etched permanently in my memory, and I love looking at the sketch Bill did of the place and the moment. He worked a couple of days on that one sketch, aiming to capture exactly how the scene looked. Our guest was sure that it was his praising the gods and our getting stuck that brought such a good omen."

Band Members: Two Florence police officers and a Fountain Hills detective posed as golfers in Scottsdale Saturday to nab a man accused of paying his greens fees with a stolen credit card, then stealing his fellow players' clubs. The thief is believed to have sold golf clubs at a used sporting goods store in Mesa. Florence police were hopeful of recovering an $1,800 set of clubs stolen last month in Florence.Chad Carnahan, 35, of Chandler, was cooperative when he was arrested at Orange Tree Golf Resort, but invoked his right to remain silent and has said little to police. He is in jail in Maricopa County.Carnahan allegedly booked a tee time online at the Poston Butte Golf Club in Florence for Feb. 22. He showed up alone for the scheduled time and was paired with another golfer.Upon reaching the 16th hole, the suspect allegedly told his partner that he left his wedge at the last hole and would be back. He allegedly drove off with the other man's clubs and never returned, Florence Police Detective Gary Lewis said. The other man reported the theft. Then last Thursday, the club manager was in Gold Canyon for a meeting and learned of a similar theft there the day before. The Poston Butte manager watched the security video in Gold Canyon, and saw that the suspect matched the description of the suspect in Florence. The suspect had also left a resume for a job in the kitchen.Florence police learned from an online booking company that the credit card used to reserve these previous tee times had been used to book a game Saturday at Orange Tree Golf Course. Police contacted the owner of the credit card, who didn't realize it had been stolen and canceled it. The game was reserved under another name, Jason Lowell. When Carnahan was arrested, he allegedly had the stolen card number and the rightful card holder's address in his possession.Carnahan is reportedly a talented chef, but allegedly lost his last job for stealing. He recently served probation for the sale of methamphetamine, Lewis said.
Influences: sometimes i come home from the lords house and i feel like yelling at my children for bein sinners and i smack them and demand my pills. then when i get my pills i am calm again. and at peace with everything in life. sometimes i hear a knock at the door. i answer but no one is there. so i scream and scream until someone comes. then i say "why have you angered the wolf?". its always danny that answers. he says "oh gina, calm down. no one is here but you and me" and he touches my special spot, it makes me melt. we embrace each other for hours. until the moon comes out of its slumber. some people say that dinosaurs don't exsist. but danny says "without dinosaurs how can you explain wolves" and i reply by saying "you mean how can you explain me?" the wolf is inside. sometimes it is talking to you. but you dont hear it, because it is a soft soothing voice inside. when i hear the beats i move my feet and the wolf is delighted. when the wolf is delighted i know i have done the work.... well.... well.... welll..... the beatles were better with pete best. you might say best was the best. i would too.
