Zaim Imamovic was one of the best sevdah singers ever. Born in 1920 in Mrkonjic Grad (Varcar Vakuf) in Bosnia and Herzegowina, Zaim started playing accordion as a teenager. After playing at different venues in pre-Second World War Sarajevo he joined newly established Radio Sarajevo in April 1945. He became the first "radio singer". He mainly sang sevdah, bosnian Fado, and his performances and early recordings used to define the genre. Zaim wrote over 100 songs out of which at least 10 are considered to be the most beautiful sevdalinkas written by a known author. After a brilliant career that spread over 3 decades, Zaim retired during 80s. He died during the siege of Sarajevo, on 2nd February 1994. His son Nedzad continued tradition as singer, musician and music producer. Nedzad's son Damir formed Damir Imamovic Trio beggining 2006 and is considered by many to be the best sevdah performer of the new generation.(I would like to thank Damir for his permision to use Zaim's songs and photos in order to establish this profile)
