Influences: Tinseltown's focus love story happens to be between two males. That is not to say that this show is about gay rights. It also just happens to be that the secondary love story is between a black male and a white female. That is also not to say that this show is about racial rights. This show is about equality all around. Love is blind, even to race, gender, disability, age, or anything else. Tinseltown never directly deals with issues of racial problems or homophobia, and therefore does deal with it. It imagines a world where people are not judged on by things like these, and instead judged on by how mainstream you can go. Sounds unfathomable, right? You don't have to look too far . . . . . . . And the sad truth is that in this real world people are judged on by the things listed above. This show attempts to be the voice of a new generation. One which imagines a world that doesn't have to deal with prejudice. So in this aspect, shows like Hairspray and Rent have certianly paved the way, and influenced some of the central ideas brought to surface here.
