On the spot

Ep (give it away, Breathe, Here we go again, Lose control, Lost and found) recorded July 08.
On The Spot is a young, dynamic, talented and energetic Indie/Pop band. Made up of: Chris Priest (lead vocals and Guitar), Greg Moss-Coomes (Bass and backing vox) Mat Colegate (Drums and backing vocals).
Starting up as a school band to compete in a local battle of the bands, against 16-18 year olds, the original line up, who were then 13, gave the older bands a real run for their money!! Out of 16 bands they came a very close 2nd, drawing much praise from the judges and audience.
Originally playing covers of bands such as The Kooks, Cranberries and the Automatic, they have subsequently worked on developing their own material culminating in their first recording and 6 track EP released 3rd October 2008.
The songs are mainly written by Chris, with Mat and Greg developing their parts and adding to the arrangements. The band take their influences from a diverse range of music including Porcupine Tree, Chris Brown, The Automatic, and the Artic Monkeys to name but a few. Leaning to the more energetic side of the Indie scene with a big nod to strong hooks and pop melody lines.
They have always been a gigging band, with over 40 gigs in 2008 mainly in pubs and bars in and around the Eastbourne and Hastings area. Playing a 50 minute set at the popular Hastings Beer and Music Festival and the 2 day Eastbourne Extreme festival on the beach, where highlights of 2008. Both sets earned them fantastic comments and support both from the crowds and fellow musicians.
They have also appeared on the local Sovereign and Arrow Radio stations, where they gave a 20-minute interview with DJ Oli T, about the band and then had a home recorded version of the song, ’Can’t Sleep’ played.
With the introduction of Greg on bass and a foil for Chris’s writing, new songs have continued to be developed in the form of ‘Dreams’ and ‘Batman’. Several others are in the pipe line and will be introduced at gigs over the summer period
Whilst writing and developing their own music plays a big part in the band, what they enjoy most is getting out there in front of a crowd and giving everyone a great time. The passion and energy captivates the audience and reflects precisely the character and nature of the young band.
This year they have already played one festival –‘Lovewood 09’ receiving a great reception and they have been asked to play at least 2 more festivals- ‘Freedom Fun Festival’ and the ‘Festival of friends’
As well as this they are booking up more gigs in the area looking to build on their success of last year and increase their following in to the Brighton area and beyond.
Much praise has been poured on the band and they have been likened to early Jam, together with bits of the Kaiser Chiefs, The Automatic as well as Paul Weller, whilst still having enough of their own character to put up their own distinctive sound.
