About Me

Singing since the age of 6, Robin Soares has been dubbed "one of the most versatile and soulful singers around". With her impressive vocal range and engaging and energetic performances, Robin's love of music and love for performing are unmistakenly present every time you see her.
She attributes her wide range of musical tastes in part to her aunt and friend who had a strong influence on her as a youth playing records by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, all of which Robin has remained a huge fan of. As a teenager Robin was inlfuenced by the great female voices of the era(80's) including Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, and Mariah Carey.
At age 13 Robin was fortunate enough to sing a song with local and national favorite, Jeffrey Osborne at an exclusive event in Hyannis, MA furthering her motivation to make music a career.
Growing into adulthood she started becoming more influenced by rock and roll/pop performers such as Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Prince where she began crafting her performance style. She also started listening to and enjoying more diverse artists such as Parliament/Funkadelic, Little Feat, YES, Ohio Players, Beck, in addition to the previously mentioned British super groups. And it wasn't until Robin's late 20's that she became familiar with and a fan of such greats as Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Connie Francis, Judy Garland, and Billie Holiday to name a few, that ultimately made quite a musical impact on her passion to perfect her vocal abilities.
Robin is a true lover of the performing arts and considers herself a "big ham" and a "song and dance girl", never batting an eye when approaching a member of the audience in the middle of a song in front of a crowd of a hundred or over 1000 adding an almost theatre-like approach to her stage show. She also writes lyrics when time allows and plays some rhythm guitar and some piano and is itching to learn the drums.
Robin is known for being flashy and flamboyant on stage, a "singer with authority", and a master of vocal dynamics- projecting loud enough to be heard without a microphone on the most demanding rock and soul tunes or soft and mellow like the early crooners on a jazz classic.
After only 5 years of professional performance and playing with some of RI and Boston's top players, Robin ventured out on her own to form the unique and diverse, 5 Flavor Discount in the summer of 2007. In less than a year of working, the band has become one of the most in-demand bands in the state, playing a span of genres from rock to funk and pop and reggae featuring a true "show" with decorated stages, beautiful dancers, and costumes, which has all allowed Robin to showcase her true self with no inhibitions.
