Pepperland Music Camp
July 17-26, 2007Khalisa Taylor is the founder of Pepperland Farm Camp. Her interest in child education and enrichment began in high school with the organization of a summer day camp. In 1974 she was drawn to the mountains by a great love for the outdoors and settled at Pepperland. Khalisa has a Masters degree in Special Education and works as a special education teacher. Our primary focus for this year's camp will be how music moves through our bodies. We will offer young people an opportunity to tune in to their own inner musician through a variety of activities that will enhance every camper's skills, whether they have previous experience or are looking for new horizons. Our inspiration comes from tuning into the song of our environment. Donna and friends will guide us as we play, sing, dance, create, and drum, tuning our songs to the heartbeat of the earth.Other activities include: Yoga for Body Awareness, creative dance, earthskills, wood walks, arts and crafts, and swimming. Our staff members volunteer their time and we call on the talents of many guest instructors and resource staff to provide a broad range of skills to our groups, as well. We are dedicated to providing a unique experience for each camper as we explore and learn together.Donna Hopkins - Music Instructor. Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and guitarist, Donna is the primary music instructor for the music program. She plans to lead the kids through a unique experience in music by helping them tune in to their own inner musician and learn to freely express themselves through music, movement, and art.Donna begins by seeing what interest each child. Experiencing an instrument first hand enables a child to find the instrument they connect with. Music is another way to communicate. Camp ends with a performance by the kids for family and friends.Campers are housed in rustic-style cabins with bunk beds.
Counselors: Each cabin will have an assigned counselor who will be responsible for the well being of the group.
Meals and snacks are inclusive in the price of the camp.
Safety is the utmost importance at Pepperland. Our staff includes individuals who are certified in CPR and first-aid.
