About Me

Last year, the first Basic Aid concert was held in Miaoli County. The event took place at the beautiful natural venue, Moonshine Hill. Fifteen bands played over the weekend to a crowd of around 300 people. It was a terrific weekend that brought in close to 90,000 NT, which went helped the Basic Human Needs organization in Varanasi, India – a school, orphanage, and medical clinic run by two former Canadian ex-pats named Jess and Dan who used to live in Taichung. It was not only a success but a lot of fun.
This year Basic Aid will be held near the Geographical CENTER of Taiwan in Puli, Nantou County. The event will take place on top of Hu Tou Mountain overlooking the city of Puli on a site operated by Step Out in Taiwan Tours – on the spot that the company does its paragliding off of. It’s a beautiful spot and will be yet another excellent weekend.
Like last year, there will be music starting Saturday around 4pm and going through to the next day until around 6pm. Last year, fans enjoyed the music of Native Space, Faye and the Slacks, The M.A.G.I., the Anglers, Militant Hippi, Dr. Reniculous Lipz, Viba, 4 In Funk Affair, Round Midnight, Catnip, Dirty Skies, the Idiots and the Moneyshot Horns. This year proves to be another great line up.

Though Basic Aid was born because of the Basic Human Needs organization in India, it has become its own entity with intentions of supporting a different charity every year. Basic Aid will continue to support Basic Human Needs but this year they will also be raising money for the Bunun aboriginal tribe in Nantou County. Like Basic Human Needs, this money will go towards helping underprivileged children.
Ticket prices will be 700NT at the gate or 500NT for advanced ticket sales (locations to buy Basic Aid 2008 tickets to follow). This will include two days of music and camping.
*Please note: Due to the size of the Step Out in Taiwan site, camping will be on a "first come first serve" basis.
What is Basic Aid?
Basic Aid is a two day charity concert being held on May 31st/June 1st in Puli, Nantou County. This fundraiser has two purposes: To support a local aboriginal charity and and to also keep supporting Basic Human Needs - an organization in Varanasi, India, run by two former Taichung expats who have been giving hope to underprivileged children through their school and orphanage. They are both great causes.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

All of you. If you love great music and want to support a great cause please come check it out.
QUICK HISTORY: This event started as a fundraiser for Basic Human Needs. The first year it was held in Dong Xin Park in Taichung. The second year it was held at The Grooveyard, also in Taichung. Last year it was hosted by Militant Hippi because Jess and Dan were not able to make it out this time around and was held at the beautiful venue in Miaoli County called Moonshine Hill. Starting with that event, the fundraiser took on a life of its own and became Basic Aid.
This year, Basic Aid has branched out to include a local Taiwanese aboriginal charity, along with Basic Human Needs. We have chosen to do the fund raiser in another special place on top of a mountain in Central Taiwan.
This fundraiser HAD to be done again this year. Basic Aid is on its way to becoming a yearly music festival and is sure to grow bigger and bigger every year. Thank you to all the supporters, artists, and bands that all have given life to it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
