.. What was ZeroSeven?
ZEROSEVEN was a joint initiative from Reach and The Oaktree Foundation, in support of the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Campaign.
www.zeroseven.org
In the year 2000, Australia and 189 other nations agreed on a plan to halve world poverty by 2015. This plan is called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
To achieve the MDGs, it would take 0.7% of our nation's income given in aid to the world's poor by 2015. If each of the 22 richest nations gave just 0.7% of their national income, as well as addressing debt, unfair trade, corruption and climate change, then we could rewrite history and end global poverty for good.
On 07.07.07, the world reached the midway point to achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. To celebrate this landmark, the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY ZEROSEVEN ROAD TRIP was created.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

.. What Happened?
The MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY ZEROSEVEN ROAD TRIP made history. On July 1st, hundreds of young people set out from Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane.

For one week, we roadtripped across the nation, hitting regional towns like Bendigo, Ballarat, Toowoomba, Bega, Mildura, Wagga Wagga, Bundaberg, Narooma, Bateman's Bay, Byron Bay, Albury-Wodonga... all the way 'til we met in Sydney.

For one week, ZEROSEVEN took Australia on a journey. It was a movement of people who are prepared to stand up and say: "Yes, our Government will Face Up To Poverty, our Generation will Make Poverty History."

.. MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY CONCERTS:
JULY 1: PERTH CONCERT HALL with Borne, Custom Kings, Bias B, Bliss N Eso and True Live
JULY 2: ADELAIDE SHOWGROUNDS with Dukes of Windsor, TV Rock, Bliss N Eso, Low Rider and Guy Sebastian
JULY 3: BENDIGO SHOWGROUNDS with Dallas Crane, Blue King Brown, Kiss Chasy and Antiskeptic
JULY 4: BATEMAN'S BAY with Evermore, Little Birdy, Bliss N Eso and Jess McAvoy
JULY 5: BALLINA HOTEL with Evermore, Zoophyte, Symbiosis and The Hampdens
JULY 6: SYDENY OPERA HOUSE All Road Trips reached Sydney for a free celebration of our generation and the Make Poverty History Campaign, featuring special acoustic performances by Missy Higgins and John Butler Trio .

At the Opera House concert, Kevin Rudd (Leader of the Opposition) stood up and announced he would give at least 0.5% of Australia's income to the world's poor by 2015.

Whilst this still falls short of the 0.7% target, 0.5% GNI represents over 8 billion dollars for the world's most needy. This is more than Australia has ever committed in history, and would change the lives of hundreds of millions of people living in poverty.
