About Me

ABOUT THE TRACKS[disclaimer]
first of all, all of these are first takes, made up on the spot, except for "should've known, right." there's no auto-tune, and it's obviously not mixed or mastered. i'm currently working on another project or i'd make it better. lyrics are posted to every song (click the "lyrics" link on the music player).
Hardcore Jammed in D Minor: While I was trying to learn guitar so that I could play Hardcore in D Major, I figured out a d minor chord and got really stoked about it. Since I already knew G major, I kept going back and forth between the two chords and sang about my broken heart on top and recorded as i went (the words came to my head and out of my mouth faster than i could remember the guitar chords, thus the painful lag). it feels really good to sing about revenge after someone really hurts you. like somehow they'll hear it and understand, and you'll never have to resort to revenge or feel like a doormat anymore.
Hardcore in D Major: Lyrically, this song is me. Stylistically, outside my formal classical training, my dad blaring 80s hair metal, and my mom blaring gospel, I was raised on campfire sing-a-longs and family folk singing with my dad, and then my little bro, on acoustic guitar. Content-wise, I'm what some people might call a mess. I think a lot and stumble over my words, I'm clumsy and stumble over things a lot, I'm impractical, I lack routine, I'm disorganized...but I'm happy. it's like riding an indecisive teeter-totter- it's fun, but sometimes you end up with a broken jaw, or just sitting there by yourself for what feels like years; regardless, there's a balance in the chaos. hardcore is raw, real, authentic, to the bone. it's the feeling that everything that is, has been, and will be, could be taken away, but you wouldn't live each day any other way. the last verse is the important verse- it gives away my secret: hardcore ain't nothin unless it produces a connection. a genuine connection. call it love- the innate knowledge that in the dust, and if or when it settles, there will be another beating heart to bleed with.
Blame the Babysitter: This is an ironic commentary on modern society as well as a killer electronic-ish song. it's mixed terribly (you'll turn the volume wicked high just to hear it and then have to turn it down 'cuz of the mad spike at the beginning of the chorus), I just had to put these lyrics into music quick. I wrote the words while babysitting- my first and last babysitting job. nothin to inspire like uninspirational upper-class white suburbia, eh? Read the lyrics, I think [hope] you'll get the point.
Bury Me: Playing with Garage Band for the first time. Ha. I like upbeat songs with strings. Can't wait to get some better recording equipment. It's about a dude cheating on a chick (say what?! crazy.) which is nothing special, but I had a nice idea for a music video where i can be a zombie girl, so I had to rock it. anyone wanna film a music video? :)
Should've known better...right: damn, i have nothing to say about this song. there's definitely a story, but i have nothing to say- except that the last word always feel so good to sing, i have to sing the whole song over. recorded at springs recording theater in tampa, fl. thanks to john stephan for getting me back on a real mic and a grand piano.
ABOUT ME
PROFESSIONAL:
-first and foremost, i don't see anything but practice, recording, shows, touring, and completely abandoning my soon-to-be-obtained pre-law major in my future. that and maybe some, like, babies and crochet needles. use your imagination.
-secondly, i'm a writer. i used to keep blogs, but now they're tucked away like most of my essays, diary entries, and poetry, to be released at a later date in book or lyric form.
-third, i am for hire and teach piano and violin lessons to beginning/intermediate level students. if you have a wedding, a special event, meeting, etc. and would like a classically trained and experienced performance violinist (solo or duet or trio or quartet, i know some people that know some people) or vocalist i would be happy to send you my resume and go over rates. i have an extensive repetoire under my belt.
please see WWW.MYSPACE.COM/BFRIESENMUSIC for more information and samples. thanks!
