Alvan Gavin Edwards, better known as Gavin Edwards to his friends and fans, is an accomplished, professional singer/songwriter and guitarist from South Africa, currently living in Dublin, Ireland.
Gavin moved over to Ireland with his band (Franklin) in 2002 by request of ex-Westlife star, Brian McFadden, who saw them perform in a holiday resort while on honeymoon in South Africe. Brian was so impressed with what he saw, that he immediately signed them to his own record label in Ireland, which resulted in an Irish Top 20 hit for Gavin and the band in 2004.
Gavin continued to write songs and perform with Franklin in top venues across the country, such as Oxegen, Michelstown and O2 in The Park. A huge coup for Gavin and the boys was the opportunity to support Incubus in The Point Depot. Gavin is a huge Incubus fan and remembers this experience with fondness: "Incubus are a multi-platinum selling, award-winning alternative rock band who I was delighted to meet and support. I'll never forget meeting one of my all time favourite bands, and having the privilege of opening their Dublin show."
Other musical influences include Guns N' Roses, The Doors, Matchbox 20, The Dave Matthews Band, Snow Patrol, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and of course, Pearl Jam.
Apart from writing the Top 20 hit "You", Gavin has also written some outstanding songs such as "Flame", "Catch Me", "Stability", the emotional "Boy", the ever-popular "Damage" and the anthemic fan-favourite "Savior".
Gavin left Franklin in October 2007 to purse a solo career, and continues to be in demand for his soulful and entertaining live performaces. His shows include an enjoyable mix of well known songs and original material, and on occasion he is joined by the inimitable Robby De Sa who now fronts Franklin full time.
