I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Hi all you MySpacecadets...
So my interests vary...love all kinds of music (even the kinds that when people say they love all music, they then say "except for..."), dancing, reading, movies, travel, golf, hiking, watching any sport, hanging out with friends, being outside, you get the idea.
Two big things in my life: the Arts and the Environment. People don't realize that what makes our lives well-rounded and not just robotic is an appreciation for the Arts. The symphony, theater, film, literature, dance, etc. Without these, we really would be just a bunch of robots.
And do I need to explain the environment thing (besides to George Bush, who thinks that drilling in the ANWAR is a long-term solution?)? Ok, thanks for not making me insult your intelligence(-:
Have a cat, well, actually, she lets me live in the same house provided that I get the food and change the litter for her. Right now my life doesn't really allow for a dog, so I get that fix through my mom and sister, who both have dogs.
Politics, both US and International, is also quite interesting. I am a libertarian at heart, but realize that sometimes people won't be nice to others and treat others with respect and dignity...that's when I fall to the more liberal side of life.
So looking forward to meeting everyone!

My Interests

Hanging with Con, languages, golf, arts (visual and performing), being outside, hiking, cities, reading, real beer, wine, dancing, clubs, politics, international stuff, sports, my "nieces" Shelby and Katharine, my four-legged nieces Sandy, Alice, and Gracie, and my kitty cat Luna.

I'd like to meet:

everyone!

Music:

Name it, I'll at least listen once...maybe even twice. Go from AC/DC to Bela Fleck (both of his styles) to Dvorak...have to give a special shout out to Dave Matthews Band, who ALWAYS puts on a fantabulous show!

Movies:

Charlie Wilson's War, The Godfather 1 or 2 (forget about 3...), Shawshank Redemption; *anything* by Christopher Guest, Mel Brooks, Monty Python crew

Television:

24, Amazing Race, Daily Show, Colbert Report, The Office, Sportscenter, Keith Olberman, sports, and don't bug me if a Fawlty Towers marathon is on...

Books:

Kinda run the gamut between thought-provoking (Ayn Rand) to classics (Austen) to quick reads (Grisham); love science fiction (Asimov or Bradbury, not fantasy crap) and historical fiction; books of essays

Heroes:

anyone who did more than they needed to in society; people who fought for women's suffrage

My Blog

An apple from across the world

So, my current reading is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.  Her account of her family's quest to eat food only grown by themselves or their fellow farmers in the area has got me ...

Come on, kick environmentalism up a notch

Ok, so as I'm watching Live Earth (looking for Tishabelle every time they showed the London crowd)...every time they asked some star their environmental tip, they were all saying to recycle.  Com...
