Hi, I’m DJ Phil Ross and thanks for visiting my MySpace. I have worked in the Melbourne club scene for over a decade and in that time I have been lucky enough to play at nearly every large inner city venue. Right from when I was a little tacker I knew I wanted to be a rockstar DJ and I was determined and dedicated enough to turn it into a professional career. Many people ask me what my favorite style of music is to play and I always answer: Whatever gets the dance floor rocking. Deep down I am really a main room house DJ and I can hold a dance floor of 2000 people effortlessly and keep them on the floor all night long. I never run out of music and I can play 5 hour DJ set without working up a sweat. I love clubs, I love music and I love being around people so I guess my career path was a foregone conclusion.
I am a bit old school and I still stay fully vinyl. I just can’t bring myself to play those little shiny things called CDs. I never smoked, I gave up drinking alcohol many years ago and I have always resisted the temptation of consuming illicit mind altering substances (honest I have) so I think this is part of the reason I have lasted so long when lots of other talented DJs have burnt out long ago.
A little insight into my personal life….. I have a 5 year old daughter named Jennifer whom I have sole custody over and together with my girlfriend Sarah and our crazy dog Jazz we live together in our home in South Yarra. I think I am the luckiest guy in the world to be surrounded by such wonderful people (and canine). I love them all very dearly and I am very committed to all of my family. At times it can be very difficult balancing clubs, business and family but I am a bit of a workaholic, I stay very productive and I somehow manage to squeeze 25 hours out of every day.
I love many different styles of electronic dance music and I even have to admit that some of my all time favorite songs are RnB. My girlfriend always turns the radio to Nova but I am slowly trying to educate her to Kiss FM. But the truth is that when I am in the car I usually listen to 1026AM 24 hour news radio. I like to keep informed of national and international current events and politics. Don’t ever ask me a question about US foreign policy because you will never shut me up – just ask poor Sarah!
