I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Err, uhm, re-inventing myself as a photographer. I've been a tech geek (computers, and before that theatre) for years, but got pretty sick of the computer industry, so I've now bailed on it -- at least for now, and hopefully for a good long time. Here's hoping I can make some money at photography...

I've posted a few images of mine in my blog here, and more can be found on flickr , and on my photography web site .

Here are a few to get you started, though (click the links to get a larger version, etc.):

Blue Smoke
See Evil
Pool Break
Rowing Home

I've also gotten into doing glass art, e.g. blown glass, in the last few years... I'm trying to get that going again... though paying for it is a little tough to justify right now. So if anyone needs an assistant, I'd be glad to help out, just to have time in the shop again, and get my technical skill level up... I can then figure out how to get my _own_ time later. Meanwhile, here's one piece I made, back when I was active in the hot shop:

Purple Vase

I hope you enjoy my work. Feel free to let me know if you have questions about it -- or would like to buy some of it, or commission something, or whatever.

My Interests

The following is most definitely an incomplete list, presented very roughly in order of how much I care about them:

photography Friends people in general blowing glass (and blown glass made by others, too) other glass art music movies other art, in general psychology language

I'd like to meet:

People I can share interesting experiences with -- from random sillyness to in depth discussion to artistic expression to... anywhere in between. People who actually exist, and, on top of that, people who aren't just out to spam me. (If you don't know me, and are interested in talking, that's totally cool. Send me a message. Just don't send me a friend request until/unless I actually have talked to you a bit, ya know? sorry, end of rant.)

Music:

Eclectic tastes. Something good helps. Some tendency towards "classic rock" -- The Who, Jethro Tull, etc... but also like some more modern stuff, like Blue Man Group (prefer Audio over The Complex by a long shot, though the latter is fun, too); I like Fishbone and random other Ska and Ska-like stuff; Contemporary A Cappella; and random other stuff.

(And of course sometimes there's some stuff that's not really so "good', but that I get into anyway. Good is preferred, though, whatever the genre. ;-)

Movies:

artsy fartsy stuff, mostly. dark and twisted is often good, but then again, romantic comedy often gets me, too. (yeah, I tend to like "chick flicks", though I'm not such a fan of that phrase, really.)

I tend to go to a movie every Friday evening, usually something newly-out-that-week, at the local theatre. Kinda fun. More fun when others join me, and I can then have a good discussion about whatever we've just seen (or wherever the discussion may lead) afterwards.

Oh, and I always watch the credits, to the very end.

Television:

Yeah, I used to watch TV. Not so much, lately.

Books:

Uhh.. various. I like a lot of John Irving stuff... I like Catch-22... Life of Pi... Tolkien... Shakespeare (the Arden series is quite fun, for me)... Oh, and of course my compact edition Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is much fun. :-)

Heroes:

Hmm... heroes... I dunno, I tend to have semi-transitory local heroes, I think. Mentors, the person who just smiled at me when I needed to see a smile... these sorts of things.

My Blog

I've got a new blog...

Well, I broke down, and made a "proper" blog. We'll see if/how I maintain it, but I did actually post something of some relevance to it just now, so possibly....

I'm rich! And famous even!

OK, that's definitely an exaggeration, on both fronts, but there are a few bits of good news:(1) I've learned recently that some of the prints I put in to the Holiday Art Sale at Pratt have sold. Yay...

No more ebay... (for now, anyway); other sales opportunities

So, I'd already pretty much made this decision, but it just got sealed a moment ago, when I got my invoice for the ebay listings I did recently. No more ebay stuff until/unless I either (a) can be mo...

Wanted: an agent

So, I could maybe be good at marketing myself if I really applied myself to that endeavor, but I find it's an effort that I don't enjoy enough to do as much of it as I'd like to. So, I'm just wonderi...
