I'm your typical feel-older-than-dirt-but-refusing-to-give-up-old-school-skat
er-dude(yea that's scarry). I'm the only old guy I know who still appreciates a smooth road and a nice board!
I’ve been a Concrete Surfer since I was 9 and would probably die bombing down a hill, if we only had them in “FlatVille.â€
my boards are:
Sector9 46" Bamboo pin and a 38" cosmic series Chopes,Fiji Sunrise Hydra
G & S "There's no flex better than a fibreflex"
1970's 26" fibreflex bowlrider w/ACS 500s and road riders2's my first G&S board!
29" fibreflex Bowlrider w/ Gullwings and yo yo's
29" fibreflex Cutaway w/ Sixtracks and oj's
30.5" fibreflex teamrider (my favorite deck) Sixtracks and Kryptos
G&S solid oak deck 30" (woodie)
1977 30" Alva Maple deck (pig) w/ ACS 650's and road rider 2's. It seems so long ago! I got this one in May 1977, I was in the 8th grade and finally got to experience my first bowl!
Ironically the board I miss the most is of course my first board a 1970 Makaha (the Plastic Fantastic) with open bearing wheels.
Music is Second only to my wife Phyllis and my Dad, but they would probably say it was the other way around! I've been playing music since I was five; my mom plays music and is still touring (She's so Lounge), so I guess it's in my blood!
I did the whole "Kumbaya" thing in High School and played guitar every chance I got, but was never cool (hum...probably the Kumbaya stuff ha ha). I did the Drum Corp thing, and vividly remember the exhausting summers of traveling in old beater non air-conditioned buses.
The biggest kick I got out of College was being in the LSU Tiger Band and going to the Orange bowl twice, only to lose both times, but the Band Kicked ASS!!! And yes, whenever I hear the band play the LSU Fight Song it still brings a quiver to my lip or a tear to my eyes! Go ahead and laugh; you'd have to be apart of something that big with such a commitment to understand.
blah blah blah and life got blurred,
I partied my way out of LSU about as fast as I came into it, became a Life Guard (loser) then joined the Coast Guard.
I played drums in numerous bands, and I was lucky enough to play in a Budweiser Battle of the Bands Spring Break Tour and share the stage with ZZ Top, Starship, and Joe King Carosco.
Music is my prime motivator, without it… well, I’d be a snail! You can spend thousands of dollars on trying to look young with plastic surgery, expensive exercise clubs, personal trainers, pills of all shapes and colors but still feel old inside! The true fountain of youth is playing music!
Look at Jerry Lee Lewis, he can barely walk onto the stage without someone helping him to the piano, but if you ever have the chance to look closely into his eyes once he starts playing he becomes the same "Killer" he was 40+ years ago! He still musters up the strength to kick the piano stool across the stage! Everyone should make the effort to see some of the pioneers of "Rock and Roll" while they have the chance; you will see what I'm talking about!
Every memory in my life is viewed as a blurred painting, but the ringing in my ears brings me the daily reminders of the music that plays so vividly in my head.
The greatest things in life come cheap if you’re in a band with your best friends, rocking your ASS off for ten people in a dingy old bar, and you have a wonderful person to share the experience with.
My wife Phyllis is my best friend, my partner in crime, my groupie :) the “wardrobe mistress†and the one who keeps me focused on who I am.
Sadly, Hurricane Katrina Changed our lives in so many ways, I doubt the trama will ever truly go away. I lost my Dad in the aftermath of the Storm and he was never able to come back to his home and passed away in Oklahoma, I think of him every day and miss him every minute...
Prior to Katrina I was playing in two bands.
Sabbath Crow decided to move to Austin Tx.
Dealing with the aftermath and destruction of our home, I decided to stay in New Orleans and try to rebuild what was lost...
I wish them the best! If you are ever in Austin be sure to check them out!
Life without Elvis decided to stay in New Orleans and rebuild. We should be back in the studio in February or March of 07, continuing where we left off and finally finish our debut Cd "Suede".
After auditioning for
Egg Yolk Jubilee I'm grateful to be able to announce that I'm their new drummer! With the style and up-beat tempo EYJ has while performing I'll definitely have to work hard to fill the enormous shoes that the other drummer is leaving behind.
I've been very lucky being part of these bands. These are some of the best bands a drummer could ever hope to play in, with plenty of freedom to experiment (no metronome or Human drum machine needed).
