The Dusty Stars

About Me

The Dusty Stars were formed in 2006 when old school friends Ed Cesar and Danny Le Guilcher hooked up in Bath and decided to form an acoustic duo. They began playing open mic nights, local gigs and busking around town before coming second in local 'Battle Of The Musos' competiton. The acoustic show had already developed a theatrical element to it. As most of the songs had been written with a full band in mind, the duo expanded with various different members coming and going. At the end of 2007 drummer Tim Gallagher joined the group, with John Ryan joining as bassist in 2008 along with old school friend Jimmy Shea ..s. The band now have a full electric sound with the abilty to also strip it back down to its acoustic roots and incorporate added instrumentation such as violin, flute, accordian and melodica. At the end of 2008 they won the highly regarded Moles Battle Of The Bands competition winning two days in the famous Moles Recording Studio and local press coverage. Having played all their local venues (including the famous Bath Pavillion for the International Music Festival in 2009) as well as venues in Bristol (The Louisiana, The Croft, The Thekla) they now have their sights on booking gigs in London and festivals for the summer. The Dusty Stars were on fire tonight, and they started of their set like a band on a mission. As a band, they have a purpose; to ooze nostalgia, which is exactly what they do. Their set seemed to fly by through an energized Moles, and there pastiche of ye olden days was ever-present in their song writing and general. - JON COLEMAN, MUSIC REVIEWERThe Dusty Stars are the sex. They looked and sounded like winners right from the off. Every song had the crowd whooping, and these are songs of style and substance. There is something truly original and beautiful about this band, they don't always get it right but they pulled it off when it mattered most to them. They have a frontman who really connected with the songs he was singing and this is a sign of an accomplished writer not just a singer in a band. - JOEL ROWAN MORGAN, MUSIC REVIEWER"They certainly look like stars, although the dust was nowhere to be seen on this impeccably dressed foursome. Injecting a dose of glam into the night (top hats, velvet jackets, faux-leopard skin guitar straps) they too performed with much confidence and zeal." - JACK PRESCOTT, MUSIC REVIEWER"Charismatic, eccentric and most of all they look and sound different from most other bands. They have a characteristic style with bittersweet melodies, sudden breaks and a sharp sound that will catch your attention and lure you in! The lyrics of this band are absolutely stuck in my head! In a just world this band would not be playing in bars but somewhere much more glamourous! Listen to them now!!!" - JOHANNA MICHAEL, Editor of FOGGY NOTION MagazineThe musical styles went from identifiable rock with ‘Everville’, through pop with ‘Waiting For The Day’. ‘Down In The Street’ was a charming, oddball ¾ number, and then the music went into some other territory I can’t categorise; Bertold Brecht maybe. This was best illustrated by their new song ‘The Night Shift’ (aka ‘Not The James Bond Theme’). I can also see the anarchic influences and little flashes of humour from bands like Pulp. Some of the more anthemic songs offer the chance for some really magical moments with the audience joining in, lighters waving etc. - BRISTOL BANDS.COM"Driving moody blues with a deep space feel, borderline f*&%ing legendary, one of the most original thematic folk driven writers I have met in the last ten years." - LUKE GILLIAM (Freelance Music Producer) http://zenphyremos.onesite.com/I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
