JAN WILLIAMS, Professor Emeritus, University at Buffalo Music Department
“Søren Monrad's ZAVANNA is an impressive addition to the percussion ensemble literature. It shimmers with gorgeous sonorities and simmers with controlled energy and exuberance. Now, thanks to Edition Svitzer, this challenging and virtuosic work from 1988 (rev. 2007) should find the performances and large audiences it deservesâ€.
Søren Monrad's 1981 Piece for SNARE DRUM is rudimental in style but not "traditional" as a composition. It is both challenging and musical, requiring a well developed technique over a wide dynamic range. Well performed, this short etude will clearly demonstrate a performer's technique and musicality.
SAFRI DUO
“An exciting piece with expressions ranging from mystery and meditative feelings to groovy as well as virtuosic and primeval percussion fever. The sheet music as presented is very accessible with clear instructions, photos of set-ups, clearly printed on good quality paper, so we don't have the music flying around in the room! Go for itâ€.
MARKUS LEOSON, solo timpanist in Stockholm Opera
"in Søren Monrad's Zavanna, the audience is moved to the African veldt and experiences an exciting adventure through the varied sounds of percussion. Zavanna is a virtuoso work for percussion ensemble and is guaranteed to be a success. This notable publication from Edition Svitzer is very convincing and includes both instructions and pictures of the set-upsâ€.
