In 1994, Mr. Hyson graduated from the University of Maryland-College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. He was immediately awarded a contract with the County and began teaching that school year.
That same year The Washington Post featured a Metro Section cover page article entitled, "Hanging with Mr. Hyson," where it reads, "In a job that attracts few men, first grade teacher, [Leroy Hyson], is outstanding in his class."

My name is Leroy Hyson. I am a father of two, an elementary school teacher and a children’s entertainer. I recently lost my wife Tammy to a long battle against breast cancer. Over the years, through work in our church and community, Tammy and I have created programs to help parents and children succeed in education and express themselves through the arts. One of the goals was to create entertaining educational material that support parents in raising their children. Tammy believed that parents and children need support and guidance from others and the community to succeed. I want to be able to help your children by providing them with music that will make a positive impact on their lives.
So many times, I wished I had positive upbeat music for my kids to dance and listen to without worrying about the lyrics being of a negative nature and at the same time have them gain something positive from the music experience.
I wrote and produced a music CD for children and their families called Musical Fun with Mr. Hyson: Elementary School Blues. It is a variety of songs from a child’s perspective, which will help you springboard discussions with your children about never giving up, knowing how to manage money, developing friendships, and understanding the life of a child in school. My goal is to provide you with music, books, and videos that will fill your household with entertaining, uplifting, and educational music that will enhance the values that you already teach your child.
With every purchase of the CD, a portion of the proceeds will go to the “Tammy Hyson Healing Fundâ€. Starting in May, this fund will provide financial grants to children of parents going through breast cancer.
