Zachary Smith & The Dixie Power Trio

About Me

Formed in 1992, the Washington D.C.-based group has developed a reputation as the East Coast’s premier “Louisiana variety band”-- playing authentic sounding New Orleans jazz, zydeco, Cajun, street parade, and Louisiana-style funk. Zachary Smith & the Dixie Power Trio uses a mix of instruments including cornet, accordion, frottoir, guitar, bass, and drums to achieve their unique N’awlin’s flavor. Our original fans remember our humble beginnings as a tuba/banjo/cornet trio playing the hits of Led Zeppelin, Fats Waller, and Tone Loc… a lot has changed since then. A majority of the DPT’s concert repertoire is original music, with a mix of Clifton Chenier, Chuck Berry, and Buckwheat thrown in for good measure. Our fans tend to be lovers of New Orleans music, wine, pulp fiction, and fried catfish. The group has shared concert stages with many Louisiana luminaries, including the Neville Brothers, Terrance Simien, Dr. John, Wynton Marsalis, Chubby Carrier, Beausoleil, the Dirty Dozen, the Olympia Brass Band, and John Cleary. They have recorded seven CD’s over the past 14 years, including their 2007 release, “Zydeco Dog”.
