American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, English Bull Terrier, Neopolitan Mastiff, Spanish Mastiff, Dogue de Bordeux, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Roman Fighting Dog, Chinese Fighting Dog, Bandog, Tosa Inu, Akbash, Briard, Beauceron, Bullmastiff, Dobermann, Estrela Mountain Dog, Komondor, Kuvasz, Maremma, Mastiff, Pyrenean Mastiff, Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Rottweiler, Tibetan Mastiff, German Shepards DogsWhat is BSL?
BSL stands for Breed-Specific Legislation which is designed to place restrictions on ownership of certain breeds and types of dogs world wide. Normally the breeds placed on the Breed Specific Legislation are ''Pit Bull types'', this is a very loose term to describe a few breeds and crosses of these breeds, Such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Bull Terrier and The English Bull Terrier. Other breeds are also targeted are Rottweilers, Mastiffs breeds and German Shepards too.Why is BSL wrong?
BSL tries to tackle certain breeds and class them as dangerous, BUT every breed of dog can be dangerous, So should BSL cover every breed of dog, plus every cross breed and mongrel? Well that would be silly as then No one could own a dog, and we already live in a not so nice world, so imagine it without YOUR dog/s, how glum would that be. I know my life would be worse off without my 3 dogs, which happens to be 2 Staffordshire Bull Terriers and One Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. So This is why I have set up this myspace account, because I know how it feels to have the threat of my 3 beautiful, well adjusted dogs to be taken away from me and to be destroyed.Any Breed can be dangerous!2
Yes American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Rottweilers, along with other breed targeted within BSL can bite, but so can any Breed of dog or any mixed breed. It has nothing to do with the breed itself, but everything to do with the owners. You have to bring a dog up correctly, by Socializing the dog well with humans being and treating it like a dog should be treared, with love, care and understanding. Mistreat a dog and abuse it, and never socializing it will lead to problems, which COULD cause a dog to bite. BSL should tackle the owners not the breeds of dogs itself, because at the end of the day the owner who has abused one dog, will go and get another to abuse again.Media Hype
A lot of views held by the public is down the media and how they write the articles. PIT BULL MAULS CHILD, will sell more papers than PIT BULL CROSS ATTACKS BECAUSE IT WAS ABUSED. The Media, twist and lie about the truth, its only aim to sell News papers. Does anyone Notice that whenever there is a major event being happening that this whole 'dangerous dogs' crusade is dropped, so that they can sell more newspapers, because this is what the public will and sadly wants to read. Has anyone ever noticed that in the Sun newspaper that ITS THE SAME RED SNARLING AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER THAT THEY ALWAYS USE ON THESE STUPID STORIES? THEY EVEN CALL IT A STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER, AS WELL AS A PITBULL TOO, I THINK THOSE AT THE SUN NEWSPAPER ARE IN SOME NEED OF EDUCATION.... I have stopped buying Magazines and Newspapers that have followed this unfounded witch hunt. The Truth
No breed is more dangerous than another, No breed is more likely to kill or attack a human being than any other breed. This is why BSL does not work because any breed can attack. Bull breeds and Mastiffs are sought apon alot of 'hard men', 'drug dealers and gangsters type people', they do not bring them up correctly, they abuse them and this leads to an unhappy, out of control dogs which COULD (not will) BITE. But ALOT of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and other breeds are in fact well known for their love of Humans and Children, My 3 Bull Breeds only today where playing with 4 children under 12 years old, The kids where hyper and all over them, my BULL BREEDS loved them and loved all the attention. I notice a big difference in the way my dogs are with children, they are soft and allow almost anything to happen to them (but i do not LOL)NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR DOG ALONE WITH CHILDREN
,Sadly no matter how much you feel your dog is amazing with Children (and generally Stafford's and bull breeds and mastiffs ADORE CHILDREN) But never leave them alone in the same room, because your child or someones else child could tease, smack, kick and hurt them. But its good parenting and dog ownership to never ever leave a child of any breed, mix or type alone with any child.Cross breeding and the Hard Man Image
A lot back yard breeders are crossing American Pit Bull Terriers, over Mastiff types. I believe this has helped massively in the BSL plight. Cross a guarding breed over a fighting breed, creates very powerful and strong willed dogs. Then these BYB who end up doing this type of breeding, just give them to anybody, no vetting and the average pet owner gets a hold of them, when what it needed is a experienced owners. They also need a lot of exercise and dogs without a lot of exercise tend to get very hyper WHICH CAN LEAD TO AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR, within any breed too.The hard man image has also helped put our breeds on the BSL list, they get them, do not bring them up correctly and think they are a tool. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! Because they are not a hard tool, our breeds if brought up correctly have a very beautiful nature with human beings. So do not kid yourself for those wanting our breeds as a tool for your hard man look.NOT FOR THE UNEXPERIENCED DOG OWNER
, Molosser breeds are not for unexperienced owners, with correct handling, any dogs will become of sound temperament , but the difference with head strong breeds is that they need fair and firm handling, they take a lot of understanding, not because they will bite because most likely they will not but because they are very independent dogs, who need to know who is boss, with this becomes power and strength, so always correct handling is a must. I would suggest Obedience training from puppy hood would be the best way to do this, always showing them you are the pack leader.Always Research the breed of dog before you take it on, this way you will have a much better understanding of what instincts and behavior your dog may have.THE BRING THEM HOME APPEAL
The Appeal sheet is here -

and we have it as a word document if anyone would like a copy, please email and I'll send one overDear Supporter,We are currently raising funds to help support a day in Court for victims of the Dangerous Dogs Act in Merseyside. There has been a date of 20th April given and twenty cases are expected to be heard on that one day, under section 4b of the legislation, where owners have no legal aid and hence no legal representation.Several owners have been in contact and more are expected to come through on the helplines over the next couple of weeks, there is but one short opportunity to attend court and plead the case for a pet dog to be registered under the Act rather than destroyed. Dogs are held in police appointed kennels, with no owner contact, awaiting the outcome, there is no appeal, the decision on the day is final. In our experience, the majority of owners, attend court in a very distressed state, some can hardly speak, as they become chocked up with tears, trying to stand up in front of an audience and promote ones case, knowing that your dogs life is literally at stake, is almost impossible to expect from a dog owner. Whether the police will remain ‘neutral’ or seek destruction on each case is not known. It is therefore vital that owners and their dogs be given the chance for a fair hearing where their case can be adequately put before the Judge and any questions concerning the dog factually answered. There is a lot of work to be done in preparation and helpline volunteers are already working flat out, combined with the staggering number of bull breed rescue enquiries coming through due to the Amnesty publicity, additional owners seeking help (Merseyside police have confirmed 100 dogs are held) existing cases being followed up, welfare and registration concerns; we really need your help, to contribute to the funding. To help those dogs in court and to give them a fair chance. We also want to show that owners are prepared to go to court to fight for their dogs, that they will get there, that there is support for them - sending a strong message that Amnesties or ‘hand-ins’ are not supported or to be recommended elsewhere in the country. Please circulate the attached Appeal Sheet and post onto your own web site. If you can at all spare a few pounds to buy a virtual dog tag, make a small direct donation or donate an item for sale and at the same time show your support, it would be most appreciated.Thank youAmandaHelpline: 0870 77 78 925
