About Me

megrim began as a project in early 2007 by producers/performers Matt Smith and Dan Carity as a platform for creating music which was primarily electronic in nature. With influences ranging from IDM, downtempo, drum and bass, acid-house, electro, and industrial to fusion jazz, metal, classical, and prog rock, an eclectic and unique blend of electronic music was molded incorporating elements of all these styles. Though both dabbled with electronic music for years prior, those experiments would eventually culminate into the electronic duo now known as "megrim".
With both having prior experience on a plethora of musical instruments, namely guitar, bass, piano, and drums, and intimate knowledge of both music and rhythmic theory, every finished megrim composition reflects their combined musical experiences/ideas which permeate the overall feel of each track. Influences: Neurotransmitters taking a leap of faith across synapses aplenty, electricity navigating an obscure electro-sewage system deep in the bowels of a circuit board, creating new circuits where there once were none, alienating people who can't be expected to understand the what's and the why's, paved sidewalks and rocky trails in varying landscapes, the sounds of the natural world mixed with the sounds of technological progress, a feeling of uneasiness about 3 hours after consumption, a barrage of oscillators and filters sculpting waves of sound destined for a chance meeting with your ear, the foul odor of swamp-foot, the need to scramble your CNS through internal and external stimuli, the divine silence one encounters on top of the mountain at night, fair-skinned maidens, grizzled 19th century prospectors, and Asian gamblers
Sounds Like: deliciously dissected audio, neurotransmitters dancing like robots between neurons, millisecond audio snippets rearranged and morphed beyond recognition, a meat grinder, sex in a circuit board, garlic, cayenne pepper, and olive oil mushed into the sound card of a computer which has been dropped into an ammonia-filled bathtub. circuit boards of vintage toys that have been rewired in ways that were not intended by the manufacturer and, as a result, voids the warranty.
