About Me

Hi there. I'm glad to meet you here on myspace. I have a lot going on most of the time and post updated information about my music happenings on my website's NEWS page at www.katemacleod.com. Visit when you have a chance. --------------------------------There are also some YouTube videos to watch when you have the chance...here's one...I live in the Intermountain West, that’s what we call this region. It’s not as famous as New England or the “bay area”, but I think we appreciate the obscure here. Obscurity is fitting for the landscape. We like the open sky, the sand and the hours that you can travel without seeing anything but a raptor and a dry storm wash. This is a place that will humble you faster than the end of your first pipe dream. When one does travel around here, there is usually a song being hummed just under the breath. I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember now. My Mom started it when she taught me all of those Woody Guthrie songs, the songs that Burl Ives sang, the songs that were passed down through tradition, songs about things that really matter and some that don’t. I don’t think she realizes what she started and you could say this has a double meaning. My father was a government worker, my mother a scientist, and I was raised on the outskirts of Washington DC. I moved out west when I was eighteen to study violin making, which I don’t do any longer because the strings just kept tugging at me, to play. I spent most of my young adult years raising a family. I’m a maniac when it comes to music. I even want to play along when someone is simply tuning up their instrument. I play the guitar, the harmonica and the violin. The violin is my main instrument and I have studied as many fiddle styles as I have heard so far and there seem to be endless things that you can do with the instrument. My song writing comes from somewhere else. It wakes me up at night and is a constant stream of organized sound with words that are already a part of it, it seems. Anyway, it’s what comes from me doing anything; whether it is spending time with the family, washing the dishes, or listening to a friend tell me a story. Whether I’m happy, sad, confused, or vexed. I love the marriage of words and melody and sometimes feel frustrated when I hear the two of them too long alone. I love the quirky habits of this art form; that human beings could be so odd as to organize our thoughts into such a distilled idea keeper, a song. Hopefully, I’ll sing in your town someday. After all, I ‘m free to roam now.---Further Information: Kate MacLeod, named among the “Ten Acts to Watch”, by editors of the MusicHound Folk Essential Album Guide, is a performer, studio musician, and educator, who is best known for her original songs and her unique fiddling style.
