Since the tender age of 14, Dave Allison (aka Venja) has been mixing, producing and creating all kinds of sounds. Jungle was his first love and he fully utilised his Amiga, with OctaMED software, to play around with deep bass sounds and tearin' Amen loops and cuts.
Once he had a PC he was using similar software, but as well as making Jungle and Drum & Bass , Big Beat was also something he was trying his hand at.
It was around about this time that Venja got into DJ-ing, playing Skint and Wall of Sound classics. He soon picked up the skills and debuted at a large Sunrise all-nighter at The Street, Skegness.
As Venja progressed, he became more and more involved in the Drum & Bass scene and entered the now legendary NY Sushi's DJ Competition, making his way through three rounds to the semi-final at the age of just 17.
This competition led to regular guest slots at NY Sushi as well as The Tuesday Club and other Sheffield Drum & Bass events. Another competition he entered was the ATM / Trouble on Vinyl DJ contest where Venja was one of 12 finalists chosen from over 1000 nationwide entrants. The final was staged at the Colosseum in London.
Other towns and cities Venja has DJ-ed in include Manchester, Leicester and Barnsley, as well as Luddstock Festival in North Lincolnshire.
Venja can also be heard spinning Breaks as well as D&B and holds down a monthly residency at Feedback in Sheffield where the likes of Tech Itch, Fierce, Break and Phace have recently graced the decks.
He has been producing some Breaks of late, but is heavily into D&B and this is where his heart is. Venja is soon hoping to finish some new D&B material so that he can get his tracks heard with the hope of full releases. Watch this MySpace...
Please take a few minutes to listen to the four tracks that are currently online. Some D&B tracks will be available to listen to in the near future. Comments would be massively appreciated, whether positive, negative or downright offensive...
