About Me

Use me & God is Enough were both written by Michael Beckwith (of the recent 'The Secret' fame on Oprah, the book & DVD - love it & I highly recommend them!) & Rickie Byars Beckwith and are so awesome to share at churches - I love it - got some superb feedback at church in Leesburg not long ago - my version of 'Hero' gave one lady both goosebumps & tears! Sweet! Thank you Sweet Spirit for every rich blessing! ***********For more info & pics see my other page at myspace.com/umaworld *********HERE'S MY BIO...Uma began performing at age six in Texas. She impersonated Dolly Parton in the sixth grade, sang madrigals and musical theatre (played Golde in Fiddler On the Roof) in high school, and studied voice at a local college. She sang and danced in Die Fledermaus during college and sings in 5 languages. Uma was a featured vocalist for the pilot of “The Positive Place Television Talk Show.” Uma was the winner of the Great Arizona Talent Search which allowed her to perform with the 80-piece Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Uma has entertained thousands at seminars, workshops and churches in Phoenix, Sedona, Colorado Springs, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Texas, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. Uma feels blessed to have had the opportunity to record with major-label producer and song writer, John DeGrazio, on ‘You are my Light.’ Check out his work at www.johndegrazio.com. Working with him and with local, Jeff Owens, has been her most positive recording experiences so far. That freedom and joy shows in her covers of ‘Fantasy,’ ‘Lovin’ You,’ ‘Shackles,’ and the Agape (check out www.rickiebyars.com) tune ‘God is Enough,’ with Amy Conley on piano and back-up vocals. Her next moves include performing at local venues, promoting her first full length CD and due to popular request, returning to the studio with a new producer/co-creator & conspirator! She loves sharing her music because it helps to unify & uplift the planet and empower both herself and audiences. Uma uses her music, drama & dance background to assist youth in creating prevention performances at summer camps and occasionally during the school year. Currently she teaches after-school prevention classes, performing and arts & crafts summer camps and sings at several churches each month. Uma loves writing: plays with student input, grants for national non-profits, and her first book. She is currently completing it, which tells of the wild adventures she's had with love - the big lessons that are shaping her life and all of the choices we have for choosing love or fear.*************She recently completed a Master’s degree in Education, with the future goal of becoming an assistant principal, principal and eventually headmaster of a school or learning center for body, mind & spirit. Assisting people of all ages find & do what they love while creating a juicy life is her overall goal.**************Her full forward intention & daily intention & affirmation today is: I am so jazzed & happy & grateful that I am a best-selling author and Grammy-winning performer traveling the world, uplifting & empowering people of all ages in love, luxury & peaceful bliss now.MY FAVORITE QUOTE THESE DAYS: I like to walk alone on country paths, rice plants and wild grasses on both sides, putting each foot down on the earth in mindfulness, knowing that I walk on the wondrous earth. In such moments, existence is a miraculous and mysterious reality.People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child--our own two eyes. All is a miracle.-Thich Nhat Hanh, "Miracle of Mindfulness"

We are rockin' it out! new agey gospel with some old skool, and usually some sweet surprise or an Agape tune! ! ! ! ! This month I sang 'Defying Gravity' from the Broadway musical 'Wicked' and a very sweet lady wondered what Broadway show I have sung in! I was like "Not yet! but soon!" And two other ladies thought that the roof was going to blow off because my voice filled up every single molecule in the place! It was mind-blowing! The spirit was so present and filling me up that I forgot my words but the crowd still gave a magnificent standing Ovation afterwards! It was an amazingly sweet, blessed day! Now if I can just get someone to help me put these FLIP videos on uTube! We tried last week and my computer crashed...help HELP! HELP! *********** LIFE IS SO GOOD! WOW! I'm ready to travel the world and uplift and inspire as many people as possible, spreading the word of love through music and publish a book or two on love, love's journey, love's craziness & the slightly bizarre things I've already done for love! It does make you do whatever it takes! ...yessirree Bob! *********** THANK You Sweet SPIRIT!!!******At other churches there is usually an awsome accompanist on piano; on occasion I might use a back-up track of my music or Agape music - I'm pretty flexible - I do meditate daily & yoga often to keep my mind & heart peaceful and maybe it's starting to show up in my music! Halleluyer!!! AS Oprah says...are you ready to meet another UMA!!!!!??????!!!!! ***********I also sing with Kenney Holmes & Show Biz - an awesome big band that morphs size wise depending on the venue/customer. Wedding receptions, parties, etc. - drums, keys, guitar, horns, blues, R&B, oldies, some new stuff, and I get to sAng my pitootipop off! Plus shake my groove thang! Sweet! You can check us on Washington Talent Agency, although I'm not in that video!
Influences: Rickie Byars, Mary, Mary, Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Wynans, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Sade, Anita Baker, Minnie Ripperton, BeyonceWe are all drops of water in the ocean of Spirit, here to have a human experience, while remembering our divinity. True, we might forget at times, and that's the challenge & fun of it sometimes! Love is the lesson and life is the school. I have been blessed singing and sharing the joy of life since age 6, being raised by a new age mom from age 10, experiencing energy awareness and meditation at 16, tantra at 22, motherhood at 25 & again at 30, living a gypsy life of travel and change, loving deeply and learning perfect lessons. These lessons were the ones I chose to grow and create in this life. My belief is that we are each responsible for the life we're creating; our thoughts, core beliefs and actions are creating our todays and tomorrows and hopefully healing the past if that's necessary. Learning about life, people, love, and doing what we're good at seems to be what's on my agenda now. When others are aware and awake, it seems to make for a very enjoyable journey. Finding those who share a generally compatible view can create more joy. Over the years I've created some great friends but would love to "enlarge my territory"! I have enjoyed personal growth trainings: Worldworks in California, E3 in DC and Legacy in NC, as have my parents, step-brother and close friends; we've staffed or helped out in some way which is a lovely service for the planet and the bonus: friends who are awake and aware. My teenage son has also completed the teen leadership training in NC. I love my family! My human family and my closer family as well!
Sounds Like: warm, inspiring, clear and resonant voice that soothes and empowers people of all religions and beliefs WONDERFUL FEEDBACK NOV. 4, 2007 at Takoma Park Chapel: - you don't sing from your throat, it flows out of every cell and hit my heart like acupuncture, some notes pierced and opened my heart. - Jane Batt
