About Me

› Ne & Erthal ‹
In 2005, Simon Toftdahl got the idea of exhibit a handful of his acoustic pop songs in a low fidelity and quite fragile environment. The outcome was the EP, ‘In The Lake, In The Haze, And In The Heart Of’, consisting of six delicate and more or less alternative singer-songwriter pieces, which was released in the summer of 2006 under the alter ego, Ne & Erthal.
After the release Simon went on a four months long trip to Spain, along with fellow Abandoned Hospital Ship-member, Christian Sinding, to go in depth with their compositions and lyrics.
Alongside playing in AHS, Simon came up with a decent number of songs, that he didn’t find suitable for his other – a bit more noisy – constellations. These songs were much too… well… pop. Another common denominator for the songs was the lyrics, which seemed to centre on themes of nature and fire in an allegorical sense.
So Simon decided to follow the somewhat dogmatic principles of a Ne & Erthal-production: A lot of low fidelity, a lot of first-takes, and a whole bunch of intuition and enthusiasm. The result? An eight piece full-length album, which draws on everything from singer-songwriter pop, and nu-folk, to avant-garde rock, and vocalized minimalism.
In short: The 44 min. and 39 sec. record, ‘Forest / Fire’ – released the 20th of July 2007. You can stream the complete album at VIRB and MyMusic . The correct track list is following:
1. The Fate Of Faetimor Flame
2. Coppice’s Corpses
3. Still Cinder
4. Making Out By The Fire On A Dead Animal
5. Woodland Maverick
6. Greyscaled Garden / Big Mouths Small Talk
7. Sleep
8. Between You And Me And The Bedpost

»Your vocal is interesting and rather cool: it is sort of a male version of The Knife's lead singer mixed with Ryan Adams singing 'Strawberry Wine'« Anders Bach, Epicentre

»Times are ready for this kind of music [...] one wouldn't be surprised if it became cult« Mads Heinesen, MYMUSIC.DK
