About Me

Rolling Stone Yearbook 08/09Songs of Applewood *** starsA surprisingly digestible and worthy experiment in songwriting.Applewood is a converted old church in the Brisbane hinterland that serves both as a residence and recording studio for ARIA-award winning producer Magoo (Regurgitator) and his wife, singer-songwriter Tylea. For two years running, the duo along with producer Jeff Lovejoy, have invited Queensland based songwriters to the property, split them into pairs to write a song, and then recorded the results, all in one day. Surprisingly, the output is uniformly good, and occasionally really great - as, indeed, it should be given that the likes of Kellie Lloyed (Screamfeeder), Amandah Wilkinson (Operator Please) and Seja Vogel (Sekiden) are all involved. This double CD collection contains all the songs recorded during 2007 and 2008, as well as a DVD documenting the process, and though it runs the risk of being little more than a high quality souvenir for everyone involved, it stands as a testament to the unsung talents of some great songwriters, well-known and up and coming.Key Track: "We Can Do This", "Let it Go"by Rod Yates
This year's Songs of Applewood took place between August 15 to August 18. 21 Queensland songwriters were invited to take part, including former Queensland artists: David McCormack, Isaac Emmanuel (Flamingo Crash) and Robin Waters (Boat People).
14 new songs were made and compiled onto a cd visit: www.songsofapplewood.com

In September 2007, Tylea, Magoo and Jeff Lovejoy (Black Box Recordings) hosted the first Songs of Applewood. Sponsored by Black Box Recordings, Tylea, Magoo, Jeff, and a grant from the wonderful APRA, the project featured 21 or so invited Brisbane artists over a three day period. Each day the writer was paired with a new songwriting partner and created a new work in one day. The song was demoed by Magoo or Jeff Lovejoy and resulted in 15 new works made and recorded on the 'Songs of Applewood cd'. The cd was distributed at QMusic's Big sound in Oct 2007 to an overwhelming response.
