About Me
First off, I am a spiritual being. I seek to attain my maximum potential. Thus, I am a poet, songwriter,vocalist, artist, entrepreneur. . .I am a teacher...I wear many hats. I've been on a bit of a hiatus since I've become a parent. I have two beautiful daughters, Paris and Jermenia. It's been a challenge but, I think I'm about ready to get back on tha grind. Dubbed "The Billie Holiday of Poetry" by Chicago Deejay, DJ Snooze (WHPK 88.5 FM and WKKC 89.3 FM), Mama Earth uses the gift of song and poetry to teach lessons of life and love. Through music, Mama Earth seeks to empower those who have been taught that they are the so-called "under-class" or are "at-risk". The message is simple. Study up!! Pray, Fast, Meditate, and Read the signs. Take your life in your hands! Be! . . . Be divine... be rich..be free. . . and DO 4 SELF!!! Represent righteousness!Earth (as she is affectionately referred to by those closest to her)has blessed open mics throughout Chicago. From the Hothouse to the Wild Hare to Essence of Life to The Cotton Club to Isaac Hayes Restaurant to Rhythm Drum bar and many, many more venues ... Mama Earth has represented!! In a humanitarian effort, in 2002 Mama Earth served as both a performer and aide in Black Fist/Frontline Magazine's "Militant Mic" series. Alongside artists, such as, Poetree Chicago, Def Poet Triple Blak, Kazi the Blak, Nuetrons, Armen rah, Black Dawn and, jazz band Zzaje food and school supplies were raised for families in need in Chicago, Baltimore, Philly, Cinncinati, and Newark, New Jersey.Mama Earth was selected as a member of the collective, Runaway Wordsmyths. An effort created and artistically directed by fellow Chicago WordSmyth and Militant Mic artist, Triple Blak, sought to teach life lessons through song, poetry, and acting. Other members included: Ret ta Go, Red Storm, Sorrow, Armen Rah, Lorra, Dawn Blessed, Devin, Tina,Arewa,Mutsia, Mama Brenda Matthews, and Y.Tilear.In 2003, Mama Earth was featured on the collaborative project, "Shannon Harris Presents: The New World Reveal-A-Soulution". Over twenty Chicago-based musicians and artists were highlighted on this album which can be found on www.DustyGrooves.com or www.CDBABAY.com with keyword Shannon Harris. Some of the artists include: Avery R. Young, Ugochi, Ascendant, Junto Phoenix, and Jo De Presser.Mama Earth is currently in the studio. Look out for the upcoming EP.
